Actor George Clooney speaks to the media following his meeting with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House in Washington, Monday, Feb. 23, 2009.

More to come from www.daylife.com....I hope?

George seemed very happy with the meeting:

:smoke:

And even made some puppy suggestions:

He said he felt very close to the President:

From Politico:

BREAKING: George Clooney after meeting with Biden: White House has promised an envoy to Darfur.

http://www.politico.com/politico44/

Pre-meeting: George Clooney has been granted a private meeting with US President Barack Obama later this week to discuss the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. Clooney, a United Nations messenger of peace, will ask Obama to help end a long and bloody conflict which is thought to have killed millions of innocent refugees, reports contactmusic.com. The actor, currently touring the neighbouring African nation of Chad, said: "We want him (Obama) to appoint a high-level, full-time diplomat to negotiate and work hard every day for a peace treaty." Clooney notes that the situation in Darfur has not improved since he first visited the region in 2006. He adds: “I was here three years ago and in some ways there’s not a whole lot of difference. It’s sort of status quo. The problem is that the status quo is unacceptable.”

Updated (from Politico):

Clooney: W.H. to appoint Darfur envoy

Actor George Clooney emerged from an Oval Office meeting with President Barack Obama Monday night to say the White House will appoint an envoy to Darfur, the Sudanese region ravaged by war and famine.

“They said that they would appoint a full time high profile envoy that would report directly to the president,” Clooney told reporters at the White House. "It's good to hear because there was some concern that this could fall off the radar. . .This would be a huge policy step."

Clooney, who has traveled to region repeatedly, said the administration “assured me that Darfur is one of a small handful of foreign policy reviews being taking at the senior-most level.”

In his meetings, he said he urged Obama and Biden to make Darfur one of their top priorities and to appoint an envoy. He gave Obama 250,000 postcards from people in Darfur.

He said the key is isolating the government in Darfur and said that would require help from the African Union, China and European Union.

together, and with a little Joe Biden thrown in for good measure. Good thing there were no photos of the three of them.

4. Wow. Just wow.
Clooney is one of the good ones. Yes, he has looks, charm, talent and charisma, and can do what ever he wants. But he's making time in his life for an issue that he feels is very important.

Oh, and did I mention looks? I did? well, hmmmmmmm sigh.

I hold out vague hopes of someday meeting him - one of my oldest friends in LA has known George since he was a kid. I don't think she sees much of him anymore though since he became a successful Hollywood bazillionaire. But she talks to him on occasion. I've met his dad, and saw his aunt Rosemary socially a few times.

A girl can dream........

22. George Clooney must have been
a woman in his past life. I wondered when Obama was going to do something about the hatred/war crimes against the women of Darfur.

I always wonder why it takes a man to speak of the atrocities against women to finally get the attention the women deserve. Samantha Powers went to Darfur and spoke of that experience on Bill Moyers show. She worked on the Obama campaign until she referred to HRC as a 'monster.'

Good for George! He's a true Gentleman...a true role model.

Sometimes I think the only way to end the war crimes against the women of Darfur is to arm them so they can defend themselves as they go out to collect wood to build a fire. I bet that Janjaweed (sp?) wouldn't expect that, would they?

Thx for the post....K&R

32. Men, take note...
that pic of Clooney goofing on the beach? THAT is what makes him ungodly sexy...that and his brain.

A man who is comfortable enough in his own skin that he can be silly, is just dead sexy. Overly serious, strike a pose types,IMHO, don't even wrinkle the sheets.

Thanks Jackeens! Happy to see the pics and to know he's using his celebrity to help Darfur.

52. This is how cool George Cloony is:
I have spent decades gawking at George Clooney! Over 20 years ago when he had a dumbass little part on the shwo "facts of life" my girlfriends and I used to "happen" to be at Studio City Park when he and his friends would play basketball on the weekends -- here's the cool thing -- he's still friends with the same guys!

I know because a couple of years ago I worked on a benefit that was a tribute to GC....and even though there were tons of celebs there the people at his table were those same guys....character actors and guys with regular jobs, regular valley guys! They still play basketball, but at GC's court these days. But I just thought that was the coolest thing.
