On Hardball: Howard Dean Lauded Obama's Health Care Proposal
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 06:39 PM by FrenchieCat
as it was offered on the campaign trail. Dr. Dean stated that this plan, because it allows folks to opt into Medicare, is the best plan that he has seen that would allow Americans to succeed in ending up with Single Payer health care without really trying.

Dr. Dean clearly stated that compromising that part of the health plan out would render the health plan as no reform at all.

I happen to agree with that opinion of Dr. Dean's, and have since before he said this, while Obama was detailing it on the campaign trail.

and I believe that is what President Obama has in mind. To allow the system to naturally and gradually morph into a single payer system as more and more people opt for medicare which is recognizably much more effective than other health plan in delivering services.

In addition, that is why I believe that entitlement reforms will occur after health care reforms...because part of what needs to happen is major reforms to Medicare Plan "D"...which is the chief culprit in costing us trillions in deficit down the road, http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8206100

and he will be upping if not getting rid of the Social Security Cap altogether.

So don't be afraid (like the media wants you to) when Obama talks third rail language referencing entitlement reforms, because he doesn't mean anything like what the Republicans do when they talk Social Security Reform. He will not reduce benefits, but instead, he is going to increase how and who benefits.

2. I'm not going to address that issue, because the Good Doctor didn't.
I'm sticking to what he thought was important information to get out...which is why he bothered to say what he did.

12. The Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel doesn't like Dean..
He was opposed to the 50-state strategy initiated by Dr. Dean. Supposedly they had an argument about it (or something) about 3 years ago. There was a thread about it on DU a few weeks ago.

But the President doesn't seem to take advice he doesn't like, so who knows what will happen with Dr. Dean.

3. My oh my. I just knew if I put Dean, health and proposal all in one sentence,
I'd get major attention for this thread.

Guess Dean Lauding Obama's anything put a damper on that, hey?

5. Thanks for posting this!
I saw Dr. Dean come on the screen and then had to leave for a bit. Since I'm on dialup, I have to wait until someone posts the gist of what was said.

President Obama is unique and uniquely gifted. He doesn't insist on doing things the same old ways that never worked to begin with. But, as much as we say we want change, those old ruts are all we know. Without all the arm waving, shouting and "my way or the highway" rhetoric, we don't recognize action. LOL!

This is, indeed, change we can believe in. But first we have to recognize it. :)

PS: That little girl is adorable!

15. I'd like to see that, too
I find myself hoping this appearance of his endorsing the Obama plan is a prelude to an announcement. It would be sweet.

10. Matthews on LIVE and he mentioned having Dean on...
I wonder if it will be a tape that was seen earlier or Dean will be on again. The LIVE confuses me.
