I believe it was Milk's third run for State Assembly. After losing, his opponent gave advice to Milk that Milk's message was a bit of a downer and that Milk needed to say something more like "how are you going to fix it".
Well I think that's the biggest problem with Bobby Jindal's speech last night. All he talked about was how 'irresponsible' Obama's plans were but did we here any suggestions of what the republicans were going to do to counter it.
I think Jindal did the proverbial 'shot in the foot' when it comes to Presidential aspirations. He came across as nothing more than a negative nelly without offering any solutions of how his party could do it better. And Jindal's poor performance only made Obama look that much better.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Milk#Race_for_State_AssemblyThe race was close, and Milk lost by fewer than 4,000 votes. Agnos, however, taught Milk a valuable lesson when he criticized Milk's campaign speeches as "a downer... You talk about how you're gonna throw the bums out, but how are you gonna fix things—other than beat me? You shouldn't leave your audience on a down."
