Rarely has something so good been followed by something so bad
Obama somehow was so good and Jindal was so bad, especially in comparison, that the big story is the response and how the person who gave it imploded.

How interesting is that?

I remember watching a few Dem responses over the last 8 years and thinking a few of them weren't done well, but the recognition of it was barely a blip.

I guess in a way it takes the focus off of all the wonderful things Obama said and the ideas he put forth, but in this case you couldn't help but notice how awful Jindal was. Plus Jindal was such a perfect example of how the GOP has gone wrong. Out of touch. No ideas. Stale. Borderline crazy. Laughable. He summed it all up in minutes. Ouch.

I think the only silver lining for him is that he has set the bar so low for himself that in the future he should have no problems exceeding it and looking better. Other than that, it was a pure disaster.

And I don't see it getting much better. Get reading for 4 years (Dare I say 8?) of tone deaf and embarrasing GOP responses to Obama speeches. It might be entertaining, but it won't be pretty.

Seriously, would you want to give a speech after Obama?

If this is the best they have then the future doesn't look too bright.

2. I wouldn't mind giving a speech after Obama. Here is my proposed text:
"Like HE said!"

Then I sit down to thunderous applause.

6. Quite frankly...
there are very few politicians in the history of this country who could give a speech after Obama and pull it off. Lincoln, maybe JFK, maybe Reagan.

I remember when the primaries were going on and McCain gave a speech shortly after Obama. It was embarrassing as hell for McCain. The news anchors were stunned at the contrast between the two.

7. I remember that too
I believe it was Super Tuesday. I also remember once, and it might have been the same one, that Obama was in front of this big vibrant young crowd that was going nuts, he had all of these energetic people on stage with him and when he finished speaking it cut to McCain in a small room with elderly people and he had John Warner and a few elderly politicians with him. He was droning on and on an on. It was almost lifeless in comparison. I knew then Obama had him if they were to go head to head. The contrast between Obama and virtually any GOP figure is stark. Never has the promising future vs our darkest past been so evident as in those moments when you see Obama contrasted against a GOP figure.

13. Lincoln didn't have the voice...
by all accounts, he was high-pitched and nasal.

Now if Licoln WROTE it, and JFK delivered it - THAT would be epic. Not Reagan, though - Lincoln would write a shitty speech for the actor...

8. David Brooks was on the Charilie Rose show last night and he said
Jindal's response speech to Obama was probably the worst response in the history of Republican responses to a Democratic speech. On that show when Jindal's speech came up for discussion there was general laughter.

9. You are wrong... "Clerks" was followed by "Clerks II"
Matrix was follwed by Matwix III, where I switched allegiance to Agent Smith & hoped he'd kick Neo's ass back to the pod

10. Technically, "Clerks" was followed by "Mallrats," which would make
the scenario not work since "Mallrats" is hilarious.

14. I'm bummed that the talk seems to
be about jindal today instead of all about how great Obama was. Course I watched the season finale of Leverage last night after Obama's speech..I sure the hell didn't want to be brought down by a lyin' repuke gov of Louisiana named bobby jindal.

It's like the day after our Awesome Dem Convention when it was all about palin instead of how amazingly spectacular our very own Dem Convention in Denver, Colorado was..but I guess that turned out all right:bounce:

Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 05:05 PM by mwei924
Obama reading a phone book would still be a hard act to follow.. but after watching Jindal, I now know the meaning of EPIC FAIL.
