Was the "inherited the debt" jab written in the speech?
It seemed that just when he had the entire chamber rallying and on their feet, Obama threw that left jab.
There was one member in the (R) side house that threw up his hands at that direct hit, and seemed to be surprised by it.

Just wondering if that was in the speech, or if he added that.

I'll go look it up in the text.

1. He's been saying
This is something he's been saying, so it may have been in there. I don't know that it was off the cuff.

2. Three times, but not quite like that
He gave it a little extra punch, but he had every intention of reminding people that he inherited this mess. I don't think he's going to let it be forgotten, and good for him.

Not because I’m not mindful of the massive debt we’ve inherited – I am.

It reflects the stark reality of what we’ve inherited – a trillion dollar deficit, a financial crisis, and a costly recession.

With the deficit we inherited, the cost of the crisis we face, and the long-term challenges we must meet, it has never been more important to ensure that as our economy recovers, we do what it takes to bring this deficit down.

3. I don't know, but...
I almost laughed my ass off.

Because he had just said something before that which had gotten wild applause from nearly everybody.

Then he throws that line out while many (Republicans) are still feeling all warm and fuzzy over something else. OMG the timing was PERFECT.

For a minute, I thought all the Democrats were going to thumb their noses and stick their tongues out at the other side...

6. Otherwise the repubs start chanting about how great W's economy
was but Obama ruined it by all those socialistic democratic agendas that had to be met. Sheesh!

How many times will the repubs talk about the great ol' Reagan days. Apparently if you tell a lie enough times it becomes the truth?! All I remember were the banks failing and people losing their homes, businesses and jobs. Then GHW bush took over and finished wrecking the economy with their tax cuts, etc.. Clinton cleaned up the mess and then W did the dirty work for the party with signing statements and letting the market "work" without govt. interferences. Another Sheesh!

Here's my apology, I voted for Reagan....

8. That was a case of most excellent timing.

I believe after the past eight years, the Republicans have totally lost credibility regarding fiscal responsibility and the issue of "Big Government."

I believe this is why they got a Governor to rebut instead of a Congressperson or Senator.

10. I believe
he enjoyed it only in the sense, that the record was set straight on national television.

The Republicans along with a good chunk of the corporate media as of late have been trying to fuzz up the American People's memory, within just weeks of the new Democratic Administration accepting power.

I honestly can't understand how any Republicans in Congress can object to President Obama's stimulus bill to jump start or soften the landing of the economy on the grounds of being concerned about "spending" without their faces cracking after being AWOL on this issue for the past eight years.

I have no doubt, the Republicans chose a Governor to rebut, as a means to prevent rebuttal from their complicit ones in Congress, causing a mass national hernia from the incredulous hysteria of it all.
