DOW Is Now Up After Media Started Saying It Would Finish Down Due To Obama. Credit Jindal?
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 03:10 PM by Median Democrat
Of course, the financial media does not bother to mention that early trading is driven in part by trades set the day before, before Obama gave his speech at 9:00 p.m. eastern.

Here is a Yahoo article blaming Obama for the DOW's drop.

Yet, the DOW is now up. Who should get the credit? Jindal?

2. Precisely
After Obama spoke Wall Street glanced into the gaping abyss that is the GOP and said, crap, if we can't get behind Obama, who has a brain and this is the finest, next to Sarah Palin, that the GOP has to offer, then we are totally screwn. Time to hitch our wagon to Barack.

I just missed my opportunity. Maybe the Jindal-meister will speak again to give the market renewed confidence. Better yet, perhaps he can release a Duet CD with pop sensation William Hung singing the praises of anarchy in times of crisis.

10. attributing market movements to any one thing is usually flawed
If the market had gone up and stayed up today, people here would have been crowing about how it was because of Obama's speech (and repubs would've been denying that). If it had gone down and stayed down, repubs would've been claiming it was because of Obama's speech (and we'd have been denying it). The fact is, what influences the market is typically more complicated than any single speech.

12. What? I Expect CNBC To Say That When Rush Limbaugh Parts Wind, DOW Goes Up
Do you mean to say that Reuters and Yahoo Finance are pulling their reasons regarding the movements of the market out of their collective ass?

13. I Always Said That If Obama Chose A Welsh Corgi, The DOW Would Go Up
I was advocating the Corgi for weeks, but did Obama listen? Nooooo...Then the DOW goes down.

*sigh* I tried.
