Denver Archbishop warns about Obama's "spirit of adulation"
Toronto, Canada, Feb 23, 2009 / 09:03 pm (CNA).- Canadians packed St. Basil’s Church in Toronto on Monday evening to hear Archbishop Charles Chaput speak about how Catholics should live out their faith in the public square. He warned that in the U.S., Catholics need to act on their faith and be on guard against "a spirit of adulation bordering on servility" that exists towards the Obama administration.

33. Pres Clinton started faith based programs, in fact institutionalized them
with the Charitable Choice provision in his 1996 welform reform bill. Both Bush and Pres Obama have expanded on it, but Pres Clinton started it.

In 1996, President Bill Clinton started down the slippery slope toward a constitutionally questionable form of faith-based aid when he signed a welfare reform bill that included a “charitable choice” provision allowing religious groups to compete for grants. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/01/opinion/01jacoby.html?pagewanted=all

... federal changes have opened the way for government funding of faith-based groups since 1996, when President Bill Clinton signed into law the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, whose so-called Charitable Choice provisions encouraged the inclusion of religious groups in delivering services to welfare recipients.

4. Yeah, there's a choice.
Do I follow (a) the legally elected Chief Executive of my SECULAR nation, who so far appears to be a reality-based individual? Or (b) a demented old Nazi in a gold prom dress with a medieval mindset?

I'll have to think about that for a few nanoseconds.

5. I used to envy the kids in Communist countries because
the nuns used to tell us the Communists prohibited people from going to church.

I was all for that. Because to me it was the most boring waste of an hour I could think of.

7. Communists don't prohibit people from going to church or from holding religious beliefs
What Communists won't tolerate is having the churches stepping into the political realm or to unduly influence their flocks to adopt anti-proletarian views.

6. And the Papacy is what precisely, but a personality cult.
I am convinced the Roman Catholic Church has gone totally psychotic, and I hope American Catholics join the likes of the Episcopal Church which has the same rites and rituals, but it has no Pope and its priests are normal men and women that know what it is to raise a family, gay or straight.

12. Moral Measure of the Economy
If Catholics generally and the Archpedophiles, specifically, adhered to Catholic principles in their economic and social relations with the world, we just might have escaped the mess we have been in for the last 20 years brought us ot where we are now.

I offer for your consideration the following book by Collins & Wright: The Moral Measure of the Economy re: Catholic social teaching which supplies a set of principles for judging the moral health of the economy.

Social and economic injustice and inequality has led to the bitterness and political polarization in this country and around the world.

'scuse the rant, I am working on a paper for grad school.

16. He is a strange little man.
He is representative of the bishops that Pope John Paul II appointed. John Paul replaced nearly all of the bishops with Vatican loyalists. They all adhere strictly to the Vatican's dictates, especially in regard to abortion, birth control and the entire gamut of repressive sexual teachings. The vast majority of these celibate priests could never come to terms with their sexuality. It is not in the least surprising the it led to perverse sexual addictions.

Most Catholic laity would desire married priests and women being ordained, but this cult of weirdos have complete control of the church and refuse change. Most young people have no knowledge of the revolution that was launched by Pope John XXIII and his campaign to bring the church into the at least the 19th century. All of his attempts at reform have been crushed by these arch-traditionalists. I think I can safely say that most Catholics who continue to attend Mass on Sundays make up their own mind irregardless of what the hierarchy has to say on any matter in regard to conduct of their personal life. In reality the church is totally irrelevant, especially in regard to the younger members.

20. What olegramps said.
Things are rapidly coming to a flash point though, as bishops across America are closing parishes due to a lack of priests and a need for funds to pay off law suits. Here in Syracuse, it seem that it's the parishes full of uppity parishioners (you know, the kind that ask questions and want to set up soup kitchens instead of buying new vestments) that are taking the hit first. We could tolerate a lot of nonsensical talk as long as it didn't interfere with our worship community. Now the bishops are going too far.

23. Ah yes, Charlie Chaput.....
...yet another senior Catholic Church figure obsessed with the unborn 'child'...but isn't it funny how most of these guys seem to lose interest in children's welfare once they're born?

"In Election Weekend YouTube, Catholic Archbishop of Denver Rails Against Obama on Abortion

With just hours to go before the presidential election, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver appears in a YouTube video in which he calls Barack Obama the "most pro-abortion politician to run for the presidency in 35 years, since Roe v. Wade. He has committed himself to do things the Catholic Church would resist."

In the video uploaded on Nov. 2, Chaput is being interviewed by Thomas N. Peters at the Catholic Information Center in Washington, D.C. Yesterday Peters, who runs blog.AmericanPapist.com, told OffTheBus he uploaded the Oct. 29 interview on YouTube because "it is my hope that many people will have a chance to see this interview before they vote on Tuesday." His conversation with the Denver archbishop about Catholic voting and faithful citizenship also appears on the American Papist website."

A lame tactic used by people that want to tear down Obama and are out of ammunition. Seriously, going after his popularity is tantamount to sniveling over spilled milk.

42. Chaput is following the Burke model
As mentioned above, it is now arch-traditionalists with allegiance only to Rome running the show with each new Bishop appointment.

The louder they are on public issues, the more they want personal promotions. It worked for ArchBishop Raymond Burke, formerly of St Louis and LaCrosse, WI. Chaput is really pushing for a Cardinal promotion. Other ones are Nienstdt of St Paul/Minneapolis and Morlino of Madison, WI.
