Marc Morial just completely slapped down Scarborough and Buchanan! |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 07:19 AM by Empowerer
Did anyone else see it?
Marc Morial from the National Urban League was just on Morning Joe and actually left Scarborough and Buchanan speechless - well, not exactly speechless - more like "ub-ub-ub . . . well."
They were babbling on and on about how wrong it is to raise taxes on "the most productive people in our society" and Morial called them on it - said it was wrong for them to judge a person's productivity by how much money they made - that people making $25,000 a year are just as productive as anyone else in our society.
He also pointed out that we didn't just get here - that the "table was set" over the past 8 years with runaway spending on the war and tax cuts for the wealthy, so we have to do something different because the old way obviously doesn't work.
At one point Scarborough said very condescendingly, "I'm talking about economic theory here." Morial shot back, "I'm talking about economic reality>."
He also slammed the governors for not taking stimulus money, calling it "cruel and unusual punishment" meted out on millions of people who have lost their jobs, life savings and homes.
And he did all of this so calmly and rationally, they had no comeback.
I don't think I've ever seen someone so skillfully and calmly take it to these guys! It was a beautiful thing!

2. Did he talk about Jindal at all? |
|
Since he used to be mayor of New Orleans, before Nagin. Did he say anything to repudiate the Katrina comments made by Jindal?

He was only on for one segment - after he smacked them all around the set on the economy, they said, "Thanks very much, Mayor - great having you." and he was gone. But his time was very well used, I think. Everyone pretty much knows that Jindal was pathetic, but his counterpoints on the economy were much-needed.

4. From my experience those "richest, most productive" are the greediest. |
|
Many/most add nothing to society in terms of building a functional culture.

6. After Morial called them on this, Mika and Dylan (?) joined in to point |
|
out to Scarborough that the Wall Street types who made billions playing with money did absolutely nothing to benefit the economy so assuming that the people who made the most money were the most productive was wrong.

Who is more productive? The worker who creates the product/service or those who grow rich from their labor without lifting a finger?
edit to add: welcome to DU!

Same with Today. Off, baby, OFF. I am tired of these right-wing gasbag has-beens.

At least Matalin had a real job in the Bush Administration. Most of these people made their chops 20+ years ago and that was the last time they actually did anything other than run their mouths on tv.
They're supposedly "strategists" but I never see any of them doing any "strategizing" except on talk shows. No politician or campaign ever hires most of these people either to work on campaigns or to help them govern.
