HA! GOP MAINTAINS SAME LEVEL OF SENATE STAFFERS! (1600 Hypocrisy Watch)
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 06:36 PM by berni_mccoy
Just now on MSNBC's 1600, the segment title Hypocrisy Watch, it was aired that even though the GOP lost 7 seats in the Senate, they INSISTED on maintaining their expense and staff budget, thus forcing the Senate budget to increase by 10s of millions of dollars to accommodate the incoming staffers of the new Senators.

And McConnell was the one who insisted on this, even as he accuses Obama and the Democrats of increasing spending.

I'm glad someone is keeping track of their hypocritical bullshit!

1. I'd like to know why any senator needs a staff of 80?
That's bigger than most small businesses in this country.

2. How can I find out how many staffers MY Senators have?
I detest my 2 Pub Senators...Chambliss & Isackson...and I'd love to get an explaination from them on why they need so many. I don't want to just ask them bcause I wouldn't believe what they said anyway!

4. Staff is based on size of district and what a Senator does with their budget.
Or use to be until the Republicans apparently demanding more than they deserve.

http://www.legistorm.com/browse_by_senator.html

Lists the salaries of staff members.

Chambliss had 44 staff members for the period of 4/1/08 to 9/30/08...the last period that was updated.

6. Thanks yyou. I hadn't found that site. I found a different one
that gave the guidelines, but nothing specific about each Senator.

7. One or two people for each issue area, scheduler, 2 press people, assistants...

If it's a big state, at least a couple dozen constituent relations people...

It adds up rather quickly, and yes, every Congressional office is a small business unto itself.
