...is there any chance you could detain him when he arrives and send him to Guantanamo for crimes against the Irish economy? Thanks.

(What's the Difference Between Ireland and Iceland? One letter and six months).

Obama invites Taoiseach to the White House on St Patrick's Day

PRESIDENT BARACK Obama has confirmed that he will receive the Taoiseach at the White House on St Patrick’s Day in one of the president’s first meetings in Washington with a foreign leader since taking office last month.

“The United States and Ireland have strong bilateral relations, deep cultural ties and a commitment to positive change in the world,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said at his daily press briefing yesterday. “The president is committed to strengthening our partnership with Ireland to address global challenges.

“The president also looks forward to commemorating with the Taoiseach his first St Patrick’s Day in the White House, a celebration that serves as a reminder of the rich history and the friendship that our two countries share.”

The White House has yet to finalise details of the event but it is expected to include the traditional presentation of a bowl of shamrock by the Taoiseach, followed by a bilateral meeting and a reception in the White House.

On March 16th, the Taoiseach will attend an American Ireland Fund dinner honouring Dan Rooney, a Pittsburgh businessman and owner of this year’s Superbowl champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr Rooney (76) was a co- founder of the Ireland Funds in 1976 with Sir Anthony O’Reilly. Mr Rooney, who supported Mr Obama during the presidential campaign, is widely expected to be named as the next US ambassador to Ireland.

1. You, of all people, should write President Obama about
your concerns with this guy. I wish you would.

2. Hopeless and helpless here!

This guy is overseeing the utter collapse of our economy and the absolute destruction of everything Irish people have worked their arses off for the last decade, while his corrupt banker pals (who make Bernie Madoff seem saint-like) give the two fingers to the lot of us. And off he'll go to the White House where he'll smile smuggly while he has his picture taken with President Obama, a prized entry in his album. It makes me vomit - and grimly depressed.

7. The they pave over Tara and build that highway? I was watching
that closely for a while and when it looked like a done deal I just was sickened and couldn't pay attention anymore.

5. Jackeens, was he not the Minister of Finance at one point
and doesn't he have inside knowledge of the 'golden circle' recipients of millions of Euro? I guess there's an opportunity to set up yet another Tribunal that will last a decade or so which will result in no actual consequences other than costing the taxpayers a ton of money. Mr. Cowan is a disgrace.

9. Absolutely right irish.lambchop
In terms of corruption we are the Zimbabwe of Europe - seriously! And yes, Cowen was Minister for Finance for four years before he became leader last year, so he allowed those banker bastards - regular dinner pals of his - screw the country under his watch. The latest opinion poll shows just one in ten of the electorate trust his leadership, but he thinks he's a patriot and will carry on. I'm an Obama worshiper ( :-) ) but I'll avoid watching TV on March 17.
