Awesome Ad - wrapping Rush like an albatross around the Republican's neck.

AUC: 'No'

In a new ad, Americans United for Chance and AFSCME press their attempt to make Rush Limbaugh the face of the GOP and to cast Republicans as rooting for failure.

"Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the Republican party - he says jump and they say how high," says AUC's Brad Woodhouse. "He is better known among Republicans than any of the leaders and when he speaks they listen and follow just as they did on the recovery package. If you look at the polls he led them off a political cliff on the recovery package - and now they are - at his instruction - lining up to oppose the Obama budget and the rest of his agenda just like they did the recovery package hoping - as Limbaugh does - that Obama fails. Of course - the vast majority of Americans want Obama to succeed and they know if he fails America fails. Republicans have adopted this strategy and this ad and a bunch of other stuff our side in planning is gonna make them own it and Limbaugh."

VIDEO: AUC: Rush, GOP root for failure

A pair of liberal groups are launching an ad campaign Friday portraying Republicans as an obstructionist party beholden to Rush Limbaugh.

The commercial, paid for by Americans United for Change and AFSCME, shows a series of GOP congressional leaders saying "no" to President Obama's stimulus plan and, more broadly, his effort to revive the economy.
"So who are Republican leaders listening to?" asks the narrator before showing an image of Limbaugh in his studio.
"I want him to fail," says the conservative talker.

The ad will air in Washington, D.C. and on national cable.

The same liberal coalition sought to drive a wedge between congressional Republicans and Limbaugh after the unanimous House GOP opposition to the stimulus last month by airing radio ads targeted at Republican senators and asking if they would "side with Rush Limbaugh too?"

That these groups would again return to Limbaugh underlines the emerging Democratic counter-strategy to GOP opposition: to depict the Republican resistance to a popular president as mere partisanship ordered up by the polarizing conservative talk show host.
"Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the Republican party—he says jump and they say how high,"
said Brad Woodhouse, the head of American United for Change who is about to become the communications director of the DNC.

-snip-
But Democrats very much want to make the GOP the party of Limbaugh, something of a back to the future move akin to their 1990s effort to isolate Republicans as Angry White Males.
Some of the Democrats' top strategists are involved in the shaping of the campaign aimed at making Republicans own Limbaugh, knowing that most won't dare criticize him or otherwise incur his wrath along with that of his millions of listeners.

"They've submitted to him in the Congress," said James Carville earlier this month on CNN. "They quake at mighty Rush, and he's the one that's setting the Republican agenda. They don't care what Michael Steele says."
