1. I don't even have to read this article to recognize that |
|
our First Lady is into free weights. (I *used* to have toned arms. ;-) ) I'm working on getting them back.

6. Free weights (with other exercise) are great because |
|
they work fast, especially if you can lift every other day. Last summer, believe it or not, I had toned arms at age 50--not as good as our First Lady's arms, but definitely toned. They're not completely gone yet, but I haven't exercised as much as I should have.
Toned arms are healthy, strong arms! At 51, I don't exercise in order to look like a 20-year-old. ;-)

If I ever start using it regularly, that is. It's kind of funny and sad that someone so much older than me is in way better shape than me.

5. I have been admiring her arms |
|
I currently do cardiovascular exercise, lift weights, and eat healthily. However, my arms aren't very toned. I think I need to use lighter dumbells for more repetitions if I want to really sculpt my arms.

7. Are you using the dumbells every other day? |
|
?
It has been my experience that starting off light and increasing repetitions (one set of ten for awhile before it gets too easy, then two sets of ten, then three sets of ten) until going on to a heavier weight.
At one time I did that for a couple of years until I was using 15-pound dumbells, doing three sets of ten (various exercises) every other day. I had some arms then!

10. You may have to tone (excuse the pun) down on the cardio. |
|
You actually want to go heavier. Females will never develop a physique like a man no matter how much weight they use. You can't look like Chyna unless you take steriods. Just weight train heavy with less reps and you'll be fine. Something like 3 sets of 15lbs and increasing periodically, for about 10-15 reps.

11. A personal trainer three times a week is not something everyone can afford |
|
Nor can everyone with two kids leave them in the morning to go work out.
No offense to Mrs. Obama - she looks great, and good for her - but that is not practical advice.

13. I have actually started exercising more because of the Obamas.... |
|
.... I figured if THEY can get some exercise with all that THEY have to do, the least I can do is take twenty minutes a day and run/walk a mile.
And you want to know the SUPERCHEESY part? I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bruce Springstine and Pete Seeger's rendition of "This Land is Your Land" from that pre-inauguration concert. I have the video on my phone and it's about five mins. long. So I alternate (depending on the day) doing push ups or sit ups to that song. Nothing will motivate you more than the godfather of American folk music sining "Nobody living can ever stop me as I go walking my freedom highway...."
And then I go eat some pie. :)
