who saw Bill Maher last night? normally I love Bill, but he called Obama "the chocolate Jesus" |
|
Now I know it's hard for political comics these days, but really that rubbed me the wrong way for all of the obvious reasons, the least of which we all know that Jesus had to be brown-skinned.

Wow! That's horrible. I did catch the discussion about our military bases all over the world, and I think he brought up a valid point/s.

than his actual own view point. Malloy does something similar and is sometimes is construed for this when his is parodying stuff they acutally say behind closed doors. Clearly from overall character they are very forward thinking people.

with religulousness. There's an article about him in Rolling Stone on What's Funny After bush and he uses that "chocolate Jesus" term, too.
He actually said "Obama is not some infalible chocolate Jesus". "That's Kanye West".

In his opening monologue this Friday or the Friday before, he also said you knew he was black by the way he was spending money.
I think Bill Maher is one white comedian who takes the unmentionables and airs them all the way out. I'm not too pissed with him yet. I do have my eye on him.
I don't know whether he is trying to press open the place where white people generally can't venture without black people calling him on it. He reminds me of the Boiling Point line (hopefully you'll get my point without me being hella offensive):
"GREG: Those fucking Guineas, half of them do coke. They all drink. No stability, zero capital. They make all this money and they're always living three steps ahead. Do you know there are guys in this firm that make close to a million a year and couldn't get a loan for a Honda because their credit is so bad. Everyone's just waiting for the fifteenth of the month. It's like they may drive a Porsche but they don't have ten bucks to put in the gas tank. N* rich."
There are about 1000 or more things wrong with the diatribe in racially grouping people and saying what their work ethic will be. This guy insults one group, AAs, so he could go after Italians. The joke in it for me was that the character just assumed AAs were garbage and was likening them to us. My mother absolutely hated this movie, but my sister and I laughed throughout the entire thing (like Pulp Fiction weirdness) because our generation didn't cling hard and fast to what was acceptable.
I think Bill Maher is trying to take the inside talk one black friend has with one white friend public.
I'll see where he goes. If he takes off into the Rush Limbaugh direction, I'll be the first person calling him out. He does have issues with his Catholic upbringing. I think he might have serious issues with authority. If Obama is the man to him, he might go after him on that basis.
