Krugman was once an Obama supporter (June 2008-November 2008)
Go read what he told us about the differences between McCain and Obama.
He ripped John McCain and relentessly once Democrats had united around one candidate. He also defended Obama against Joe the Plumber.

The New York Times archives from that period.

The archives are your friends.

2. I see him as a critic, but that is not the same a opponent.
I think he supports Obama and wishes him well.
He just advocates a different economic solution.

That hardly makes him Rushbo.

3. and if Bobby Jindal runs against Obama, guess who Krugman will support
Barack Obama.

That is for those that pretend Krugman "hates" Obama.
Right now, Obama is the President. Telling you how much John Boehner sucks is unlikely to bring any change in policy, plus we all know Republicans suck.

5. Because Krugman has just as much to lose

if Obama is not reelected.

Krugman hasn't said anything new--but nothing he said ever got him onto Newsweek's cover while Bush was President.

Until now. Suddenly, Krugman as "Obama is Wrong" loyal opposition is cover-page news.

Hell, very few people (until recently) even knew that he won a Nobel Prize--and even fewer can say what he won the prize for. (Hint: It WASN'T about the domestic economy.)

Do you think he wants to go from "Nobel laureate with a big megaphone" back to "irrelevant gadfly from a liberal rag," should the Repubs get back in power?

16. irrelevant gadfly from a liberal rag
The New York Times is now a liberal rag? I hate to say it but the average amount of intelligence in the posts here is dropping perilously.

18. Of course it isn't. We know that.
Won't stop the MSM from claiming it is, though. Hence the quotes.

You could try to address the point, rather than throw around an ad hominem.

Here's the point again: with Repubs in charge, do you think Krugman will have as big a voice, or an audience, as he does now?

Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 06:29 PM by depakid
Nader just so happened among those who were be right about the consequences of the policies that members of the current economic team advocated, enabled and implemented. and to some extent- are still advocating enabling and implementing.

19. People who think Obama=Bush earn that glorious title.
Nader helped give us the invasion of Iraq. His acolytes here would give us an invasion of Iran by tearing Obama down to help Bobby Jindal get elected.

9. Because his alternative was McCain.
Krugman relented in his criticism of Obama only after all Obama's competitors had relented.

Krugman took the better choice, but he's never been an Obama fan.

So it's all in the eye of the beholder. His criticism is backed by other experts' analyses.

15. I'm confused.
By your logic, since Clinton and Biden ripped Obama relentlessly during the primaries, they are not Obama supporters now. Obama's brave to recruit such subversive people into high positions in his administration.

Should we judge Krugman on what he did before, or on what he does now?
