Dear

I've never done this before.  But life is about taking risks is it not?

I know that people seem to pay attention to everything I do.  Big or Small.  Ridiculous or Sublime.  So I am hoping they pay attention to this:

I am supporting General Wesley Clark for President.

Not only as a "celebrity," but as an American citizen and as a mother.  I want my children to grow up with the same opportunities that I had -- to know and understand what's going on in the world and to travel that world safely and with pride.

I fear the future I wish for my children is at risk, so I'm taking action.  Please join me.

Our greatest risk is not terrorism, and it's not Iraq or the “Axis of Evil.”  Our greatest risk is a lack of leadership, a lack of honesty and a complete lack of consciousness. Unfortunately our current government cannot see the big picture.  They think too small. They suffer from the “what's in it for me?” syndrome.  The simple truth is that the current administration has squandered incredible opportunities to bring the world together, to promote peace in regions that have only known war, to encourage health in places that are ravaged with disease, to make us more secure by living up to our principles at home and abroad.  The simple truth is that the policies of our current administration do not reflect what is great about America.

Thankfully, we have a candidate running for President who is committed to ensuring that our country lives up to its promise and its people.  Wes Clark is a decorated soldier and a respected diplomatic leader who has already given 34 years to his country.  He is smart and he is good.  He has worked hard to get where he is and he is a national hero.

A perfect example of the American Dream.

I've never aligned myself with a presidential candidate during the primary season.  But this time, the stakes are just too high, we have too much to lose and there is so much work to be done.

I'm joining you in supporting General Wesley Clark in 2004.  I have committed to do all that I can to help his campaign in the coming months, and I'm asking you to do the same.  He needs all of us to reaffirm our support today, at the start of the New Year.

I've looked at all the Democratic candidates.  I respect them all for their dedication and patriotism.  But I'm supporting Wes Clark because in him I see the qualifications, character and vision that we so desperately need.

We are a country with incredible promise.  As Americans, we enjoy opportunities like no other.  Unfortunately we too often take these opportunities for granted.  You may not agree with everything I say or do, but whether you're rich or poor, young or old, black or white, gay or straight, I know you share my concern and recognize the need for change.

If you can give, give generously.  If you can volunteer time, get involved now.  And don't be shy…share your support with everyone you meet.

If it helps, spread this message on to everyone you know.  My opinions have made news before.  Let's make some news in 2004.

Madonna

P.S. Your financial support is needed today to fuel Wes Clark's campaign through the primary season.  Please give what you can today and make your voice heard.

Maybe we can Britney and Madonna wrestle for the primary winner.

3. Impressive...if true.
If it's true that she has never supported a candidate in the primary season, it's impressive that Clark has moved her enough to to this. I wonder if having a child has caused her to become more interested in things like this.

6. It's true
that becoming a mother changes your perspective on the world and definitely re-orders your priorities!

I think that Madonna has always had her serious, thoughtful side, it's just that sometimes it's been concealed behind cone-bras and garter-belts. But I can remember many interviews in which I have really been impressed with how bright she seems.

Of course, now I realize she's brilliant!

WHen you are single, it's all about you. Kinda like the Hugh Grant character in "About a Boy." Things change when you have kids adn the future matters.

8. An endorsement from the "Material Girl"
She's as shallow as Clark. The two make a perfect fit -- sex diva and a general.

20. At least Martin Sheen knows how to act like a President
and he can rebuke God in Latin. Sheen has more brains that Madonna.

19. Oh, I'm not whining. I'm not a Madonna fan
The General can have her. It won't take much effort on Rove's part to come up with some anti-Clark ads, should the general become the nominee, sporting Madonna to the Repuke base. Can here the Material Girl pumping up the Repuke Fundamentalist base to rip Clark apart.

27. Thanks. Just what DU needs: mindless bitchery
Was your post meant to have anything substantive in it, or was it precisely designed to have that petulant, stupid shallowness in it?

Read it again. It's a worthless comment unfit for someone who takes his/her own opinions seriously.

A fact you and the media are trying to make us forget.

That said, Clark welcomes all supporters - singers and non-singers alike!

...lived in the U.K. now.

Perhaps she has multiple estates in different countries, just to be safe.

16. My virgin eyes...YIKES!
Since polls suggest Clark's support is mostly male this probably won't hurt.
However, if he keeps making headlines like this one from the other day:

WES: MONICAGATE WAS OVERBLOWN - NY Post

Rural voters might begin to wonder about ol' Wes.

23. But it's true!
I suffer from a near complete lack of consciousness for eight hours every night. It detracts from my productivity, limiting my functional working hours to a mere two thirds of the day. We need to get behind Madonna and fight this! I know in the past she's been active in having copious amounts of sex throughout the night to avoid this lack of consciousness and I'm glad she's finally taken a public stand against it.

Clark/Madonna in 2004! No sleep for the righteous!

24. I don't see what's wrong with that statement.
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=consciousness

One of the definitions of "consciousness" is: "Alertness to or concern for a particular issue or situation: a movement aimed at raising the general public's consciousness of social injustice."

There may be just a touch of irony in your scorn there.

Peace.

22. Do you have Madonna's Email Address?
I didn't get the e-mail, and there are a few things I'd like to discuss with Madonna. One was a demostration she gave in "Truth or Dare" that I hope she could show me.

Also, I'd like for her to personally reenact some of her most famous MTV moments for me. Live, in person.

So if you have her e-mail address, please pass it along! :-)

I like the way she lays out the threat we face if these neocon maniacs stay in, and why General Clark is the best candidate.
