New National Tracking Poll
Rassmussen National tracking Poll
by Chris Bowers
http://www.dailykos.com
Thu Jan 8th, 2004 at 18:38:07 GMT

Although somewhat overlooked here with the excitement of the ARG NH tracking polls, Rassumssen is conducting a national tracking poll.
January 5-7 (4-6 in parenthesis) MoE = 4

Dean: 22 (20)
Undecided: 15 (16)
Clark: 13 (11)
Lieberman: 13 (12)
Gephardt: 12 (12)
Kerry: 8 (10)
Edwards: 6 (7)
Sharpton: 5 (7)
Braun: 5 (6)
Kucinich: 1 (1)

Hmmm, interesting that Dean's picked up two points, and that Kerry has gone down a point......

OBJECTS ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR!

2. My take?
When Clark first entered the race and jumped to the top of the national polls, I was told by many here that national polls don't count in the primary season.

I still think they do, though.

But that's my opinion.

3. The national polls matter one way,
because they most likely give a reasonable account of the opinion across the country. But the primary season is such that what matters is who gets a lot of votes in the first half dozen or so primaries. Or who does worse than expected, or better than expected, even more than winning or losing the primary or caucus.

Perception becomes everything at some point.

4. You are correct
National polls at this stage are just a nice indicator of name recognition and market penetration.

5. The only polls that truely count...
Are the one's open on election primary day.

BTW that undecided can go either way.

10. Anybody that tells you that polls don't matter....
supports a candidate that is not doing well in the polls.

Polls don't matter? Is that why every campaign pays big money for internal polling data. Is that why about 100 polls exist at any given time and people are shelling out lots of dough for polling data?

Actually, I do agree with the sentiment that polling data is most useful in simply gaging how well your message is resonating with the public. Trends do matter.

I said "that truley count" how can you get "don't matter" out of that?

8. Lieberman gained a point?
As the race narrows, I wonder whether it will be Clark or Dean who will pick up the Lieberman, Gephardt and Kerry supporters.

14. How do we win with a candidate who can't convince more than 7% of his own
party that he should be the nominee? Edwards may be a good salesman in the courtroom, but he has not been very convincing on the campaign trail.

18. What You Mean "WE"....The War Was Aggression Based On Lies..
Who gives a flying fuck whether we win if we have to win by supporting that sort of thing. We don't want to be a part of a campaign headed by a political coward who would vote to give George Bush a blank check on such an atrocity.

The polls are skewed by ignorance due to all the Bush lies and propaganda initiatives trying to convince the American public that black is white.

13. ONCE AGAIN, Rassmussen is NOT TO BE TRUSTED -
he's a whore for Sean Hannity who ALWAYS skews his poll results. Just look at his website and see his commentary that goes with his "results." Such sections include "Dems Disagree with Daschle," among others.

17. I've already decided
that I'm only going to believe the polls that show what I want to see! That will make it so much easier to track the ups and downs of each candidate! :)

Yes, it's human nature to cheer when the poll says the 'right' thing, and to dismiss it when it doesn't, so I'm getting a headstart on that.

24. Hmmmmm
DUers the other day were dismissing the latest USA Today national poll (the one that had Clark closing in on Dean) as coming from a Rightwing Gannett rag. But apparently RASMUSSEN (of Fox News fame) is a swell polling source.

Gotcha.

25. Do you understand margin of error?
Those changes are statistically insignificant. Nice try to make a point with that last sentence, although it's absolutely meaningless.
