President Obama's Speech at Notre Dame Commencement...
Edited on Sun May-17-09 02:43 PM by vaberella
Is it just me or does he look like he's speaking to all the drama over the pictures and even the military tribunal?

There's something in his words---which unfortunately I do not have, which seems to give pause. The idea of bridging the gap and putting away personal "issues" in the face of achieving a common goal. One of the failures of Karl Marx, and just Marxism is that they ignore the cultural divide. O on the other hand said, accept and embrace but put it to the side in the face of meeting the demand of what we both hold dear.

He's still talking, but his statements is definitely meeting a lot of the drama on this board as well as the drama behind his presence at the school.

Edited: To put in President Obama's proper title.

1. He's doing a great job - not avoiding controversy but going straght into it.

3. He's a "big picture" thinker. Many don't get it.
He's thinking further ahead than many give him credit for, and that's why his presidency will be so successful.

And its success will not be due to his ardent detractors because they are like so many hecklers at N.D. today.

They are just so much noise in the backgroud.

Go, President Obama, do it your way, I'm with you 100%.

:patriot:

5. Ditto.
He's definitely a profound speaker. He really has targeted a lot of issues in this speech and it's amazing. It also explains why he really pushes for bipartisan work, he wants their input but for the common goal---the American people. Unfortunately, what I've come to see, and I think O has, the Repubs are far too self-interested.

7. Good point.
There are so many issues that are emotional for many of us who sat and suffered under Bush, helpless to do anything. It helps to know that perhaps there is a bigger goal that President Obama is striving for. The guy has shown he is very capable of good judgment.

4. Yep you got it and here is another thought --- this is "preview" of the speech
that he is going to give on June 4th in Egypt.

The Middle East will never have seen anything quite like it. Calling everybody out and showing everybody a better way all at the same time.

10. Hah. I'm just amazed how he's able to stay on topic and yet include
everything that has been going on, at the same time. If you're not aware of the controversies with the pics and military tribunals, it's a great speech on unity. When you know the issues going on you also see the fact that O stands as someone who is looking for the common ground and really want to push ahead with us together. Also he was also stressing that he hears all our concerns and trying to find the best outlet to achieve our goals. He's really targeting the many issues.

9. Anybody else think all the crying babies in the ...
audience were not some fluke? A couple of them let out cries as if somebody was pinching them. Sorry, but that's what I was thinking 3 or 4 times during the speech.

12. When he said something about the Lawyer and the Soldier, I thought he was talking
about the torture issues and the pics. The man has a way with words.

13. Exactly, which is what I was addressing in my post.
He was most definitely speaking about things that are beyond the controversy of the Notre Dame ting alone.
