My problem with all of the candidates
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 06:35 PM by Mass_Liberal
While it's one thing to point out the differences between the candidates, it is quite another to forget all about the positive points and the things that they believe in. In DU we fight a lot about Dean's gaffes, Clark's past votes, Kerry's and Edwards' Iraq war vote, and Kucinich's electability. But in my mind it's damn useless. Militant Kerry people are not going to convince Dean people what they believe about Dean people someone who talks before he thinks, somebody to raw to beat bush. Militant Dean people are not going to convince Kerry people what they believe about Kerry having betrayed the Democratic Party with his vote. So all of this yelling at eachother ain't too productive. We aren't convincing anybody of our opinion.

Furthermore, I think that the candidates are attacking eachother so much that they are beginning to seem petulant to me, and I think the public to a certain extent.

Peace. Good vibes between people is what we should aim for. Good auras.

5. only one problem----Clark never voted on anything
he doesn't have a domestic record that we can hold him accountable to, or know where exactly he'd be loyal to a certain issue....

8. DU is a training ground
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 06:41 PM by HFishbine
You are right. In the past several months, I think I've seen three or four people change their minds here. That's not why I hash it out on DU though. The things I learn here, the points of persuasion that work, I take with me into the real world. On local blogs, in LTTE, and in conversations with family and friends, I use my DU knowledge to persuade.

11. in terms of reasonable persuasion I agree with you totally
but not blunt bludgeoning techniques iffen ya know what I mean. Saying Clark is bad! Noooooo DEAN is bad! NOOOOO CLARK is BAD!!!! And so forth. A fair bit of traffic in this forum is just bitter enemies sorta yelling at eachother. Its not really rational discussion all the time.

19. I agree with you. But even when it's not informative
it can be a comfort to come here to be with generally like minded folks, if you work or live with Repugs.
