Who Here at the DU Will Be Excited About Either Clark/Dean or Dean/Clark?
Please, please do not weigh in here about which of the two you prefer. There are already hundreds of those "kind" of threads and this will not be one of them.

The contest is over for the other seven candidates. The question is now only this: Will it be Howard or Wesley at the top of the ticket...and that is a good thing for all of us!

Both of these great candidates will arrive in Boston with large and loud and loyal contingents of their delegates. Only one will have a majority to win on the first ballot, but it will happen on the first ballot.

We will all know by March which of the two will be the standard bearer of the Party and to lead us in triumph against George W. Bush.

While it is no secret that I have, for a long time now, favored Doctor Howard Dean as my first choice, I have also made it very clear here at the DU that I could be equally happy with General Wesley Clark at the top of the ticket.

There is no way that either of these two fellows can ignore the other at the convention, for each will have die-hard, dedicated supporters in those delegate chairs who will settle for nothing less than their man being chosen as VP. So no matter how much each will protest in the coming weeks that they would "never" accept the second spot, believe me they will do it...they will have to do it. And it will be a powerfully unifying event that will galvanize not just Democrats, but millions of Americans, as well.

So the only thing I want to know here in my thread is this:

How many of you will be excited with me by a Clark/Dean or Dean/Clark ticket no matter how the arrangement winds up?

Will you be as pumped about the Doctor and General or the General and the Doctor as I know I will be?

Will you be ready to kick GWB's ass out of the White House and to watch our next Attorney General John Edwards go after corporate crooks and war profiteers?

Keep your preferences out of this thread. All I want to know is if you can be excited and work hard for team regardless of how it turns out? I can. I sure hope you can, too.

14. Skinner Inspired Me. And It Will Be "Fabulous"!
I've been "out of the closet" for Dean and Clark or Clark and Dean as our team for a long time now, but Skinner's brave thread today simply inspired me to have a early parade for our 2004 Team!

I know you are a very dedicated Deaniac, so I am jazzed to see your grace here, Padraig18 if it turns out the other way.

Both of these outsiders are FIGHTERS and will not any of Bush and Rove's tricks slide by without punching the hell out of them.

Two fighters!

7. It would be fine with me in fact, it would be the ideal ticket
but the problem is, Clark has made it clear that he's running for president and won't be vice president, so that combination is not going to be probable. I don't think Clark will choose Dean as his running mate if he wins, because in my opinion, he wants someone with a military background, such as John Kerry. I'll be very excited about any ticket that will whip Bush's behind. :bounce:  :hi:

26. Ideal. Landsliding Qualities!
Either one will do the right thing for the nation. I have no doubts about it whatsoever. There will be some hard feelings...because there are hard loyalties.

But when these two stand together the last night of the Convention --- as they will -- it will register with the hearts and minds of Americans that the Democrats have given them something to vote FOR.

13. Please stop offending Clark by wilfully ignoring his wishes
as well as the wished of all the Clarkies. I hjave enough of dirty tricks disguised as 'unity". They always occur when insecurity anout your guy sets in. THERE WILL NEVER BE SUCH A TICKER, so make up your mind. Either way, just stop this endless manipulation.

18. Wrong Thread.
Sorry, but I believe both Wesely Clark and Howard Dean will do what's right for the United States of America.

There has never been a candidate running for President who has said that he/she would accept the VP. It would be foolish for either of them to say they would. Both are running to be President.

But both will be taken with the power of those thousands and thousands of delegates in Boston and with the cry for unity.

I honor your support for the General. He's a great American.

But if it's Clark/Dean that'd be great. I'm not so comfortable with Dean yet, but after 8 years with Clark I'm sure Dean would be ready to be a great president for the next 8.

insider like Gephardt would be best for either one. Fresh GOP outrages heal all wounds.

34. Don't want it.
Both Clark and Dean need somebody that can help with Congress. IMHO, that's Graham, Richardson or Kerry - and I'd be against Kerry, because the Gov would replace him with a Repub.

Levin would be an interesting surprise choice though. Probably one of the most powerful Senators there is, and nails down Michigan - particularly for Dean, where I think it's iffy.

40. Exactly
If Clark wins, I don't want him to pick Dean, though I could live with it reluctantly. And if Dean wins, I will probably support the Dem ticket, but I don't want him to pick Clark (even though Clark is my choice for Pres).

Both of them need someone on the ticket who has experience on the Hill. They need a VP who can work congress and shepherd the votes through.

There will be no Clark/Dean or Dean/Clark unless it comes to a brokered convention and they need to get together for party unity. Whoever wins needs a VP who has experience in DC, in order to steer the administration's legislation through the people in the House and Senate and work the votes.

A Clark/Dean/Clark pairing will end up handicapping the new Dem administration. And it's just not a wise choice.

42. I'm excited because it will eliminate media distraction from the issues
A close primary, or even worse, a brokered convention, will only resort in the media focusing on the alleged battle for the Democratic Party instead of covering the issues. By having Dean and Clark on the same ticket, with the corresponding grass-roots organizations of both campaigns behind them, we can hopefully force the media stay on message regarding the real issues, instead of offerring distractions about Democratic infighting.
