Her "cleanup the mess effort" is going to work with who she needs to convince, Her effed up speech will soon be forgotten by the base. Not By Romnety and Huckabee and their supporters.... But now she will get to say: "Awww shucks...That's just the media, being the media, pay no attention to them. I did what was right for the State of Alaska... Now watch me run point for the party".

But I see her peeling off the winger roots and dropping the GOP flat. The saner Republicans don't buy her act, and she is too thin-skinned and unbalanced for the rigors of a traditional run, so maybe a "maverick" third party that's managed the way she wants it is where she's going. Right wing extremists are her natural base constituency and she knows it.

3. But that is precisely what this sets up |

Saner Republicans vote for Pawlenty and Romney
But the core votes for her over Huckabee...If he even runs,
The road to the GOP nomination goes through South Carolina where she suddenly looks very attractive now that Sanford won't be running. Winger roots, a SOuthern Strategy and winner-take-all states like California and she could win the nomination and the saner republicans leave the party in droves.
