1. His "someone like me" comment really slapped some of the old school commies in the face when it

...came to US politics being rigged.

They know damn well Russia would NEVER EVER EVER EVER elect someone "like" Obama into office...his name alone would disqualify him from 99% of European lead offices.

It's an American thing, I'm proud he's displaying it with such class and prestige...

7. my thoughts exactly!

i heard something on CNN this morning along the lines that the meeting between Obama and Putin took much longer than anticipated and that Obama was late for another engagement because of that. i guess this just goes to show that Putin, and not Medvedev, is really in charge... i wonder what they talked about and why it took so long and why Putin looked so pissy...

8. Obama doesn't look like Putin's his favorite guy, either.
OTOH, the Medvedevs look like they've warmed up considerably since yesterday's pix. Bet Putin sets them straight after the Obamas leave.

11. Putin looks old and out of it
He's only 56 -- he should at least be alert and engaged, even if he's not entirely on Obama's wavelength. Something odd going on there.

15. agreed.

i don't think it has anything to do with age, though, but.... something "odd" (for the lack of better terms) was indeed going on there. ~

6. damn
It's nice to be proud of your country again. And, if any freeper-lurkers want to pick up on that, no, I was not proud of my country during 8 years of illegal, misguided governance.

12. Oh, there they are with the biggest cannon ever made
I remember reading about it in kids' books when I was little and how it was too big to ever actually be used in war. I'm sure that's symbolic of something.

Here's some of the Wikipedia entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Cannon

Tsar Pushka (Russian: Царь-пушка, literally "Tsar-cannon") is a huge cannon, commissioned in 1586 by Russian Tsar Feodor and cast by Andrey Chokhov. The cannon weighs nearly 38 metric tonnes and has a length of 5.34 meters (17.5 feet), a calibre of 890 mm (35 inches), and an external diameter of 1200 mm (41 inches). The Guinness Book of Records lists it as the largest howitzer ever made.

Along with a new carriage, the 2 ton cannonballs surrounding the cannon were added in 1835 and are larger than the diameter of its barrel; it was, in fact, designed to fire 800 kg stone grapeshot. According to legend, the cannonballs were manufactured in St Petersburg, and were intended to be a humorous addition and a symbol of the friendly rivalry between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The cannon is decorated with reliefs, including one depicting Tsar Feodor Ivanovich on a horse. The original wooden carriage was made in the early 19th century, but it was destroyed by fire in 1812 when Napoleon descended on Moscow.

The cannon is within the walls of the Moscow Kremlin next to the Tsar Bell, which is similarly massive and the largest bell in the world, but it has never been rung.

Russia while the US corporatemedia played their tributes to what they thought was important.
