Is there an equivalent of Palin on the democratic side?
And if there is/was can you imaging any Dem voting for him/her?

Us dems might have our issues, but we sure seem to reject "Stupid" when we see it.

7. lol, I think she's worse
They're both about the same as far as ding-battedness and really missing the mark on media communications, but at least Blago did work for the people on occasion.

13. The OP is on the mark.
Sure, we elect some people who are narcissists or have some other major personal blemish that impacts their politcal lives. But the root of the problem with Palin and W. is that they are just effing dumb Homo sapiens. That's the main reason Palin is polarizing: most people hate stupidity but she revels in it, and attracts the likeminded.

16. There are people on the far right who would say the same thing about Palin
The truth is, Kuccinich and Palin are closer then you're willing to allow yourself to see.

And Kuccinich "knowing policy" is debatable.

The guy has been in politics for 40 Years. He's been a rep for about 15. He knows Policy. He just believes that socialism is the way to go and says so.

I'm not a huge fan of his but I can spell his name right.

20. Wow, that's a really good question! Ding ding ding!
I'm trying to think of a Democrat with a national presence who is loaded with charisma and folksy charm but is characterized by being a clueless airhead with zero depth and no grasp of America's system of government.

Thinking....
Thinking....
Thinking....
Thinking....

No luck! We have "characters" like Al Sharpton, but he's 50 times more aware than Sarah. So who are our buffoons? The republicans think Franken is a buffoon (I think they expect him to wear a big red clown nose to committee hearings as a "joke"), but boy are they in for a surprise!

As far as I can tell, there simply are no buffoonish, embarrassing Dem politicians on the level of Palin, Bachmann, Boehner, Blackburn, Foxx, and on and on and endlessly on. They have an unlimited supply of idiots; we have none.

The same situation applies to commentators! We have Bill Press, they have Limbaugh. We have Lawrence O'Donnell, they have Hannity. We have Laura Flanders, they have Ann Coulter. It's like this right down the line. They have loud, braying fools, we have insightful commentators. Perhaps there is an idiotic liberal commentator somewhere, but I can't think of one at the moment. In contrast, I can list dozens of way-offbase right-wing gasbags ("It's appeasement, Chris! It's the same thing!") without even thinking about it.

And don't even get me started on which side has higher quality voters!

21. John Edwards
The comparisons are there

- Not much experienced in getting anything done, but made some nice speeches that told people what they wanted to hear.

- Pretended to stand up to the establishment and the powerful, when the actual proof was nowhere in evidence.

- Angled for the presidency after an uninspired vp candidacy (always running syndrome).

- Used folksyness and working poor upbringing as cynical cover

- Fiercely defended and beloved by a certain segment of the party's base no matter what reality reveals

- Family situations caused much embarrassment all around

- Imploded spectacularly

23. The only thing about that is Edwards isn't as polarizing a figure as Palin
I think he was a pretty run of the mill Democrat. Palin is very nasty. Edwards made a lot of mistakes, no question about that, but the comparison doesn't fit.
