9. HELP: Debunk brother in-law's Republican views on Health Care.
First letter: From my republican brother in-law to our republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn.
Second letter: From me comparing US health care to Canada's health care.
Third letter: Responses to my letter.
Any help or links to rebuke his claim would be so very appreciated.
Thank you, Patti Gilliam

LETTER TO TEXAS REPUBLICAN SENATOR JOHN CORNYN FROM REPUBLICAN BROTHER IN-LAW:

I can't believe what the Obama Administration is doing to our precious country. Healthcare Reform will ruin our current healthcare system and Tax our healthcare benefits. The cap-and-trade will impose unreasonable requirements on everybody, including our small businesses. I appreciate your values and your committment to fight these measures in the US Senate. What's with all the tsars Obama has created? They have no congressional oversight. Thank you for your time.
Austin, Texas

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MY RESPONSES:

USA- - 85% are insured 50 million people in the US are not insured...millions more under-insured.
Canada- 100% insured.

USA-- 81% take home pay after taxes
Canada--82% take home pay after taxes

USA-- 17% of GDP for medical care (more than 31 cents of every dollar is spend on overhead)
Canada--10% GDP for medical care.

-Some say universal/socialist medicine will give the government control of who you can see.
Now, the HMO's insurance clerks/lobbyist control of who you can see.

- Some say there is a long wait to get medical treatment in Canada....Not true..emergency care is given
The USA has long waits to see specialist...

Uninsured people get sick too....and HMO's don't cover preventive care.....
Please support the efforts to have a one payer system.

REPUBLICAN BROTHER IN-LAW RESPONSES

50 Million people are uninsured because many young people either choose not to or feel no need to get health care when it is given to them for free via Medicare Medicaid. How many illegal's live in this country?

Take home pay for taxes on an average sounds good. The problem with your math, is that over 35% of people pay no taxes at allI can't believe what the Obama Administration is doing to our precious country.
Austin, Texas. Some of these people do contribute via payroll taxes, Medicare, and social security, but the majority is a smaller withholding compared to the amount of services they receive.

17% of GDP for a Country of 300+ Million, compared to a country of 33 Million. Oh yeah, you forgot to mention the amount of money spent on R&D, new drugs, which are sold around the world at a lower price, in order to compete for market share. Many countries take advantage of this competitive economy of scale to lower their health care costs. If we stop developing new drugs, and push development to other socialized countries, their GDP will have to rise accordingly. The same argument can be said with regard to the amount of money spent on our military, compared to other countries. They spend less, because we spend more to guarantee our democracy and theirs.

President Obama, when asked whether you can keep your own healthcare plan seemed to imply that you could, but that you would be penalized if you did so. BTW, can you explain why government workers and officials were exempt from the single payer plan? Of course you can’t, because even they know if won’t work. Why do we have to tax your benefits?

- Some say there is a long wait to get medical treatment in Canada....Not true..emergency care is given
The USA has long waits to see specialists...

Are you kidding me, people wait months to get an MRI, Liver and Kidney transplants, that’s why they come here” I have friends who live in Canada, they laugh that we are considering a system like theirs.

Oh yeah, we only have a limited amount of doctors to provide health care, add 50 Million people and who will take care of them, its called rationing. It happens in every country that has a socialized plan. Supply and Demand, learn some econ 101 before you throw out your liberal dribble.

Name one government program that is efficient, well run, and not in the Red. Did you know that Medicare administrative costs are not even included in their budgets, and they are in the red?

HMO/PPO, real Choice, Government run health care, no choice, administrators decided who lives and who dies.

I’ll sign up for a single payer system when the government makes Medicare and Medicaid successfully run institutions. Don’t hold your breath, you will be dead.

As far as Bush is concerned, at his worst, he spent 2% of our nation's GDP. Obama, in six months, has spent 45%. You do the math. Who's responsible for our sinking economy? You can't spend your way into prosperity. You'd like to turn this country into a Socialistic Nanny state where everyone is secure and nobody is responsible. I have a natural fear of big Government. I believe in making your own bed and laying in it.

Oh, BTW, Cap-and-Trade is dead in Congress.

10. I'm curious - where's he get his health care?
Don't forget to remind him to opt out of socialist Medicare when the time comes.
