Palin to stump for conservative Democrats (Moonie Times)
EXCLUSIVE: Palin to stump for conservative Democrats
Ralph Z. Hallow (Contact)

ANCHORAGE, Alaska | Brushing aside the criticisms of pundits and politicos, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she plans to jump immediately back into the national political fray — stumping for conservative issues and even Democrats — after she prematurely vacates her elected post at month's end.

The former Republican vice-presidential nominee and heroine to much of the GOP's base said in an interview she views the electorate as embattled and fatigued by nonstop partisanship, and she is eager to campaign for Republicans, independents and even Democrats who share her values on limited government, strong defense and "energy independence."

"I will go around the country on behalf of candidates who believe in the right things, regardless of their party label or affiliation," she said over lunch in her downtown office, 40 miles from her now-famous hometown of Wasilla — population 7,000 — where she began her political career.

"People are so tired of the partisan stuff — even my own son is not a Republican," said Mrs. Palin, who stunned the political world earlier this month with her decision to step down as governor July 26 with 18 months left in her term.

Both her son, Track, 20, an enlisted soldier serving in Iraq, and her husband, Todd, are registered as "nonpartisan" in Alaska.

<SNIP>

"I'm not ruling out anything — it is the way I have lived my life from the youngest age," she said. "Let me peek out there and see if there's an open door somewhere and if there's even a little crack of light, I'll hope to plow through it."

Only knuckle-dragging Repugs would even want to be mentioned in the same breath as her.

Obviously, this is more about her and her image than anyone who's competing in 2010. After seeing this, there's no doubt in my mind that she's testing the waters for 2012. Personally, I hope she finds the temperature just right and hops right in. C'mon Caribou Barbie. You know you want it...

then what is the justification for a PAC?

18. To raise money to spread around to others who are running.
Don't know all of the ins and outs.

I'm not sure if she's allowed to spend her PAC money on herself, but I don't think so.

The point of it is too cultivate political clout. Palin has popularity with the base so she can attract a lot of contributions with her name and then go around dispersing the monies to different candidates around the country.

Then, when and if she decides to run again, it greases the wheel for her to go around and ask for contributions and endorsements.

That's my take on it, anyway.....

to all the nonpartisans in Alaska. Registered Democrats and registered Republicans are in the minority here. Most voters are nonpartisan or independent -- not AIP. Here's the breakdown as of the end of June.

Lib -- 6,132
Rep -- 125,089
Nonpartisan (no party affiliation)

-- 175,700
Grn -- 2,582
Republican Moderate
-- 3,152
Veterans Party
-- 1,189

36. That no doubt is true.
But it isn't true of the majority of nonpartisan and undeclared people I know, many of whom actually lean more Democratic than Republican. They just like to keep their options open so they can vote in Republican primaries if they feel the need.

29. She might have been able to get away with this
before the campaign last fall because in Alaska she had been quite bipartisan and in fact had a higher approval rating among Democrats and Independents than she did with the traditional Republicans. Unfortunately for her, she has revealed her true colors. I can't imagine any Democrat favoring her at this point.

Chris Christie has said that he does not want her to come to NJ. Here's an interesting op-ed from my local paper. Seems this may cause some anger on the part of the FR in the party.

41. Hmm what democrats would campaign with Palin... gee I can think of maybe 1... how bipartisan!
The only incumbent democrat I can think of who might possibly accept an offer to campaign with Palin is that one democratic congressman in Utah, I forget his name, but he votes with republicans almost as often as democrats, and represents something like a R+20 district. He's probably the only democrat in the entire district who can hold his seat for us.
