Newly elected Young Republican president made racial comment about President Obama
Candidate triumphs over brouhaha
Young Republicans' new leader says Facebook controversy was a misunderstanding
Indianapolis Star

A Louisiana woman won the top job in the Young Republican National Federation on Saturday despite a national flap over racial comments about the president on her Facebook account.

Hundreds of delegates from across the country spurned the controversy in voting for leaders at the group's convention at Downtown's Hyatt Regency Indianapolis.

Calling the posting political mudslinging, delegates selected Audra Shay, 38, as chairman. She will head the group of up-and-coming Republicans ages 18 to 40 for two years. In a vote closed to media coverage, Shay defeated Rachel Hoff 470-415, according to TheConservativist.com blog.

On the online social networking site Facebook, Shay had supported a friend's bashing of President Barack Obama, according to a column on TheDailyBeast.com by John Avlon, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

1. This story keeps popping up, and each one calls her "young." 38 is young?
19 is young. 25 is young. 38 would be young for a VP candidate or a tortoise, but it isn't young in any other perspective.

3. She belongs to the "Young Republican"
Their age requirement allows them to be a member until they turn 40. Young Democrats have to be younger than 36.

5. Depends on how old you are..
38 seems young from this side of the cloud now..but that doesn't excuse her from being a stupid asshole.

"The Daily Beast’s revelations about the 38-year-old Shay over the past week–most notably, her positive response eight minutes after a friend likened the Obama administration to “a bunch of coons”–hovered over the convention, according to participants. "The convention was chaos because of the controversy," said one delegate. Her younger opponent, Rachel Hoff, became the reform alternative to Shay’s candidacy, but as Hoff got traction, an ugly online whisper campaign against her began. An anonymously built temporary Web site mentions Hoff’s alleged involvement in improperly notarized absentee ballots for South Dakota Senator John Thune, but quickly stoops lower. Hoff’s support for same-sex civil unions seems to be the real scandal, expressed in lil’ Lee Atwater tones:"

8. When you lose the youth vote (30 & under) by a 2 to 1 margin, 38 is young!
That's the only way they could find enough young people to participate in a young republican group, raising the age of 'young' to being almost middle aged.

2. It speaks volumes.
Despite the racism and bigotry they elect her anyway. This says a lot. And these people are supposed to represent the future of the GOP. I guess some things never change.

7. That, plus, an ugly rumor was started
about her opponent..

<snip>

"Shay’s opponent, Rachel Hoff, was the subject of an ugly sexual innuendo whisper campaign that questioned her reasons for supporting civil unions.
Shay’s electoral slate, dubbed Team Renewal, battled desperately–some likened it to intimidation–and, ultimately, successfully to block a motion that would have allowed delegates to cast their votes by secret ballot, for fear they’d lose.
Near-fistfights on the floor, and finally something of a boycott, as some of Hoff’s slate of candidates lower on the ticket chose to remove their names from the ballot after her defeat.
“They just took a vote that may have set the party back 30 years,” said the co-founder of HipHopRepublican.com, Lenny McAllister, speaking from the floor of the Hyatt convention hall. “They just voted for a candidate who has a demonstrated tolerance for racial intolerance. She has joked about lynching and then claimed to be a victim. As a black man, I still don’t see what’s funny about that.”

9. She hates. She's a racist, and ignorant of basic grammar. Perfect choice for GOP.
Of course she won.

That's who they are.

You would think the Republicans would learn this kind of stuff just sinks their chances further in terms of people beliving they will reform themselves. It's even uglier that a women would do this kind of thing. Some people will stoop low enough to step on dead people.
