Well, we all should know by now that if nothing comes of all these recent revelations...
The whole basis for this country is gone. We no longer would be a nation of laws but a nation of elite corporatist supposedly elected who do as they please when they please and how they please.

If there is no satisfactory resolution to all of these crimes committed in order to advance a political agenda that can safely be summarized as "I got mine so I could care less what you or anyone else gets" then this grand experiment is gone.

A nation of laws specifically means that no one is above the law.

There are no exceptions to the rule.

Period.

Welcome to the worlds newest banana republic...

1. Just don't write it off if it all doesn't happen in the next 10 minutes

Prosecutions at this level take time.

Months and years.... NOT days and weeks

Investigating and prosecuting the administration that you replaced is an endeavor that must be done with the greatest care.

If there's a hint of partisan witch-huntery, the whole thing collapses.

Obama has to let Holder handle it without *ANY* input from Obama. It has to be an investigation that is independent of the Obama White House.

2. I totally understand...
But if they can't investigate because, as it now looks more and more likely, the Obama Administration continues to slough off all of these revelations, then what should we expect?

The Justice Department has to initiated some kind of investigation that doesn't just look at those who committed hands on offenses but also those who ordered the action.

If it doesn't come from the Obama administration...

I really hope, as I have stated in other posts, that Obama is just waiting until the hue and cry from the populace forces his Administrations hand...

5. It has to come from an independent prosecutor... everything has to be above-board

It can't be the administration, or the other side just screams "witch hunt" and the process collapses.

Holder should name an independent prosecutor, and let the investigation go on from there - WITHOUT Obama's involvement at all.

...only takes a minute.

3. Now, now...
Let's not be hasty...

As the other poster said, these things take time, lots of it...

Besides, we're too damn big to be a banana republic...

And we don't grow any, either...:P

But still...I hear you.

And your points are well taken.

Recommended.

4. There was no haste invoked...
I was simply pointing out that if nothing is done about all these revelations, then it undermines the whole idea of a nation of laws.

No time frame was mentioned.

7. I have some faith that something will be done but scale and revelation will vary, Penneta has to be
...pissed to say the least.

We know Cheney was withholding information, that to me isn't a surprise but If I were Penetta I'd be going after those who'd be holding information from me on the orders of Cheney who isn't in power any longer....the people who withheld the information would be fired quickly.

9. The monied interests..

If we had only kept greed at bay.

I believe this experiment can work and possibly save itself ..but the greed has got to go.

10. The irony is that the party that literally made "partisan witch hunts"
a policy in their Justice Department, is now safe from prosecutions apparently due to the fear of "partisan witch hunts".

They have so polluted the very concept of Justice and Rule of Law that we are going to have a very long slog in getting back to a place of rationality.

Monica Goodling and her ilk did more to undermine the foundations of this country than any foreign country or terrorist could ever dream of doing.

I would make a revision to the Hatch Law that would say that all attorneys and judges employed by the Justice Department have to refrain from ALL political and Party activity for the duration of their terms of employment. I'm completely serious.
