CBS poll: Obama approval at 57%
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 10:21 PM by Adir Pykhtin
July 13, 2009

(CBS) President Obama's approval rating has fallen six points in the past month, a new CBS News poll finds, amid growing skepticism about his handling of the economy and questions about the impact of the stimulus package.

The president's current approval rating, which is 57 percent, is still relatively high. But it has fallen 11 points from its peak of 68 percent in April, and has also dropped since last month's mark of 63 percent. His disapproval rating, meanwhile, has risen from 23 percent in April to 32 percent today.

The decline in support is coming not from Republicans - whose support for the president has actually risen - but from Democrats and independents. While 82 percent of Democrats still approve of the job Mr. Obama is doing, this number is down ten points from last month.

3. Pepole expect the stimulus bill to be taking care of all problems in four months since it was signed
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 10:30 PM by LaPera
After eight years of Bush & 6 years of total republican rule in the house & Senate?

Get real people!

As long as Obama and congress get a universal health care bill passed with a PUBLIC OPTION his and the Dems numbers will absolutely go back UP!

4. Obama hasnt spent enough time (or money) dealing with the concerns of
....average Americans.

A few measly dollars extra in paychecks wont cut it after everybody has watched this administration bend over backwards spending a trillion dollars to minimize the economic damage to the banks and AIG, only to see those same banks screwing over everyone after getting that money.

If theres a continued perception that Obama (or his administration) arent as concerned about the average person as they are about the Wall street crowd his poll numbers will continue to decline over the next few months.

10. I think it is related to Consumer Confidence which took a dip. When it starts heading
back up, so will the poll #'s. Just my theory.

16. Consumer confidence is taking a dip because Obama's not as progressive
as people thought he would be. His policies aren't big enough changes to get the job done and the people he's using aren't friendly to the agenda they thought they were voting for.

13. Obama will go down to 42% or so before he climbs again
And he will win reelection in a near landslide.

14. The people who voted for Obama want REAL change not
Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 12:36 AM by The Hope Mobile
more corporatists or moderate policies. He's not as progressive as he claimed to be. Face it. This was highly predictable when he started backing off his promises. This isn't just a DU thing. People across the board have noticed that he's more corporate friendly and less average Joe friendly than they expected and they're understandably disappointed as they should be. I just hope he gets the message and does something about it. We can't keep compromising with the neocons and their ilk.

15. Gallup had Dems at 90% approval during the same time period this poll was done
so who knows? Gallup has him at 59% today.

It will not be up where it was until the economy improves. People don't blame him for the mess we are in but they do want him to make it better. I wonder if this will lead to support for another stimulus package or less support for the first one.

17. It's all about healthcare at this point.
If Pres Obama delivers real reform with a REAL public option, his ratings will go through the roof and stay there and he will have secure legacy for himself established in the first year of his Presidency.

If we get watered down crap that "levels the playing field" on behalf of the pocket lining insurance industry, then he is most likely toast and Dems themselves will be much toastier, since they won't have a good health plan to point to when the economy tanks even more, which it most likely will.

We don't need bi-partisan healthcare reform, we need REAL healthcare reform.

19. I think jobs are the more pressing issue, but I agree that healthcare is important.
It's all about jobs, IMO.

20. People who don't have jobs ALSO don't have healthcare
you cannot extricate one from the other. They are equally pressing.

I have heard people on news shows try to deflect emphasis from healthcare onto to jobs as though we are not capable of handling both simultaneously. (I'm not suggesting you are doing that - but it is something I have noticed w/ the talking heads)

And where he falls down we correct it with activism and pushing congress. But after the era of Bush we can't afford to act like we have options 2 party system those are the breaks. This can work but it'll take sweat. Abandoning cship brought us a nightmare now is the time to bring back the dream.
