I am glad the "Complexion" of the US Supreme Court is changing
Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 10:09 AM by Catherine Vincent
Yes, I know there is one Black in there but that's not enough. With the addition of Sotomayor, there will be two women. Now maybe the next one, we can get an Asian in there. No more old white men that think they are the only ones that know law. :)

1. Hm. I long for the day when we're willing to accept the best qualifed with no caveats.
Wouldn't it be awesome when comments like, "I think the next appointee should be an Asian" seem irrelevant?

5. I would imagine folks with brown skin long for that day as well.

6. To accurately depict the diversity that is supposed to be
the foundation of this democracy, to acknowledge the 'complexion' of ANY institution will ALWAYS be relevant, in view of the fact that we are human and subject to human frailties and weaknesses.

2. I thought Futurama had a great gag in one episode...
Snoop Dogg as the chief justice!!

OK, joking aside, a SCOTUS that more accurately represents the "complexion" of our country would be fantastic. Who knows, if it actually represented the country, people might start showing more interest in it at times other than justice nominations and the über high profile cases.

3. What do you have against old white men?
I wouldn't use the word complexion- I like diverse backgrounds and educational experiences.

7. Nothing really.
Just glad that it's not always for the Supreme Court. Now if they are all old white men but moderate to liberal, then I'd have no problem with it. :)
