Guy James said it best on his show.
Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 04:57 PM by GivePeaceAchance
This recession is likely to potentially be long and hard and folks have to be prepared to let President Obama throw everything at this recession because everything is sunk in a huge ditch. He went on to say what if folks had stopped FDRs contruction projects and social security assistance. Where would things be today, if those methods, that worked hadn't been taken. President Obama is using the only solution available the FDR one and it worked but even back then it took time. It basically is we have to be prepared for the hurting then the healing will begin. I'd like to think this would be shorter than longer but Guy James radio presenter is rarely wrong. But withdrawing support from Prsident Obama will only hurt more in the long run. Wherever he falls or we disagree we can address it in the congress as we saw with congress pushing back on signing statements, but abandoning the President now isn't the way to go, where we disagree with him we can work round it via congress and keep moving. Listen to the last 20 minutes of last weeks Thursday show he sums it up perfectly, link...

1. Thank you, Guy James..
Nobody I know has any intention of "abandoning" President Obama.

2. I wouldn't dream of abandoning the President when
he needs us and we need him! But thanks for saying it, Guy.

I'm glad you still have a radio show. You're still a class act.

4. While I can appreciate the sentiment, comparing the public works projects
instituted by FDR and the bank rescue projects instituted by Obama and others is a bit disingenuous. One benefited the public good. The other benefitted...

Oh, by the way...Goldman Sachs has just reported RECORD profits and is paying MASSIVE bonuses. The recovery efforts seem to work so well for them.

5. Sure we can be cynical but the main thrust of the economic recovery is via the stimulus..

The banks will have to improve their behavior in itself to keep peoples custom alone. In the long term these things will come into balance. The bailouts are almost inconsquential to the larger picture and President Obama sees a much larger picture. Hartmann gets a lot of things right but I think President Obama will be vindicated in time, I admit I am no economic expert but I do know this Obama is 5 steps ahead most occasions.

7. We *hope* these things will come into balance in the long term.
And no, I don't believe the bailouts are "inconsequential to the larger picture." We are seeing the continued transfer of immense amounts of public taxpayer wealth to private, for-profit business concerns, that in effect, created the financial crisis. Already there are alarming signs that the financial bailouts could be a gargantuan financial black hole.

I hope Obama will be vindicated, however, he is as much at the mercy of the corporate predators as the rest of us. And I have no illusions of the super-human capabilities of President Obama. And I highly urge the rest of my fellow citizens to not have the same illusions either. Retain your hope, but temper hope with a healthy dose of reality.

And finally, you *think* Obabma is five steps ahead on most occasions. The question is: five steps ahead of who. He may well be the kinda, friendlier face of the same corporate plutocracy.
