Politico: "the ball fell short of the plate". Time: "Strike.....Obama gets the ball over the plate"
Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 08:46 PM by Jackeens
Politico: PLAY BALL! President Obama threw out the first pitch at Major League Baseball's All-Star Game Tuesday evening -- and the ball fell short of the plate. Albert Pujols did POTUS a favor and scooped up the ball so it didn't hit the ground, but the president looked disappointed.

The Page/Time: "STRIKE! Obama gets the ball over the plate when throwing out the first pitch (from the mound no less) at Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game in St. Louis."

Why wouldn't the cameraman pan to the plate during the pitch? I can't remember ever seeing video of a baseball game where the camera didn't follow the ball from pitcher to plate!

He threw the ball, the game started.

They played, it didn't rain.

People ate hot dogs and drank beer.

Then the game ended.

A good time was had by all.

Except, obviously, for the people who gave a shit about whether the ball crossed the plate or not.

Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 08:10 AM by zbdent
but hey, the Repukes think he was a great president ...

seems to me that Barack Obama has a lot more on his mind than practicing throwing strikes for a ceremonial first pitch ... George W. Bush probably had plenty of time to work on his pitches and didn't want to be bothered by the PDB in August ...

Here is a pic, #13 from Jackeens, that clearly shows that Politico had it right on where the ball landed.

Notice Pujols left foot, it's in front of home plate.

Are any of you gonna call The Page/Time to rip them for their lousy reporting?

Why not?

22. Seriously. I bet Politico would never mention the Rethugs that once bounced the ball during a first
pitch like Poppy Bush did as VP.
Obama did good and its not that important in the long run but Politico wants to turn it into a negative story. Some posters get that but others are here on DU merely to point out what a disappointment Obama is...even on first pitches. Utterly LMAO right now.

A pitch at a baseball game! Who freaking cares....the OP was showing the difference in the two reports and people go nuts. People point out boo'ers and people run to their defense. Silly and petty as hell.

29. So what about
"the president looked disappointed"? I don't think he looks disappointed. Do you? So I would say that Politico is at least partly wrong and can't even get something as simple as an expression right especially when there is photographic proof.

So don't feed me a pic and expect me to go all "ga-ga" in support of politico or not. You believe that one pic says it all. While in the case of the video above....when everyone thought the pic said one thing---the truth was wholly different. You just like feeding off of any negativity towards the president. ~sigh~ Depressing.

20. Pathetic reporting
Not the part about where the ball landed, but the part about the reaction. Too stupid for words. So someone pumps their fist and that signals disappointment? Politico can't hide their bias even for a story as inconsequential as a baseball game first pitch. Just ... wow.
