Chavez floats the possibility of Obama assassination, suggests US is responsible for Honduras coup
This past Sunday, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez broadcasted a series of anti-Obama comments over his “Alo Presidente!” show, at one point even toying with the possibility that President Obama might be assassinated. The Hill quotes Chavez:

On the “imperial” U.S. forces that Chavez thinks killed JFK: “I hope they do not kill Obama, because Obama is biting off more than he can chew.”

Chavez also demanded that Obama “stop dithering” on the military takeover of Honduras. Obama, however, has strongly condemned the Honduran coup and “diffused” Chavez’ charges. Earlier this year, Chavez called Obama a “poor ignoramus” who has the “same stench as Bush.” Obama, however, has vowed to turn a new page in hemispheric relations and it seems that, for the most part, Latin American leaders and their constituents believe him.

3. That the CIA/Pentagon will assassinate him if he gets out of line? Yeah. Yeah I do.

4. Link doesn't say anything about CIA or Pentagon.
It's just Chavez saying "I hope they don't assassinate Obama," and then you disagreeing with that.

6. He refers to "they" - the "imperial" forces that killed JFK.
And it says so in the link, the linked Hill story, and the linked Universal story.

5. So your problem is with the CIA/Pentagon, not Chavez, right?
I mean Chavez said he hopes Obama remains safe? You don't think that's wrong, do you?

7. Why would I have a problem with the CIA/Pentagon? I don't think they want to kill Obama.
I mean, sure, I have problems with them at times - the way one has problems with any bureaucracy. Doesn't mean I think they're out to murder the president.

Chavez is, to be blunt, concern trolling. Combined with the rest of his comments both in the address and that he's made since the election, it's obvious that his feelings toward Obama are hardly comradely.

2. Chavez is very sympathetic to Obama, as I believe he should be.
Obama's presidency still offers great hope. There are certainly reactionaries in the US who would want to do him harm.

9. Very sympathetic, yes.
One can have sympathy for one who is ignorant (not that I share this observation). There is no contradiction. I did not say he wished to follow his leadership.

10. Obama might be assassinated ... but the likelihood is that Chavez probably
would have no ties to it ...

more likely, it would be some "lone wolf" ... who had autographed first editions of every book by Rush, Beck, Malkin, Coulter, Buchanan, and was constantly being booted off RW sites for being to freakishly sick for them ...

There are many people who believe they are responsible for JFK getting it.

13. I do not believe one thing that the US press says about Chavez. And the
Obama administration is planning to enlarge its military installations/etc. in Columbia according to another DU article today, which should be a no-no.

The American Nation is not the problem. It is the corporate control of our government that is the true problem. The rich bastards that use our government as their private army don't give a shit about human life. It doesn't matter to them if it's a farmer in Vietnam or a the fucking President. To them, it's just another thing that is preventing them from making a profit, and so must be eliminated.

15. Oh for fuck's sake, the CIA and Pentagon aren't going to assassinate Obama
Chavez can't stand the fact that for the first time in a while have a President who has an approach toward Latin America that is at least rational and isn't motivated by a nostalgic desire to keep fighting the Cold War. If JFK or Carter were in office right now, he would have equally negative things to say about them.

18. Chavez is *NOT* our friend...
Just because he hated Bush, doesn't make him a friend to the U.S.

Stalin hated Hitler, but that didn't mean that Stalin was a friend to the U.S.

The dumbest statement ever is "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

That's how we got mixed up with the Mujaheden (sp?) and created Osama bin Laden.

That's how we supported Saddam Hussein in the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

Hugo Chavez is an enemy to the U.S. Yes, he was on the right side with respect to the Bush administration.

But he's not our friend.

Hugo needs outside enemies to keep the heat off his own neck.

Or do you think he isn't a politician with domestic problems to deflect?
