Gore's Daughter May Run for Congress

Roll Call reports Karenna Gore Schiff (D), a lawyer and author who is the oldest daughter of former Vice President Al Gore, is being mentioned as a possible candidate for the House seat likely to be vacated by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) if she challenges Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) in a Senate primary.

4. She would be a formidable candidate, a great Democrat and another woman in Congress.

7. I don't doubt her intelligence...
However, when people jump right in to support her just because she is Al Gore's daughter - that is the type of thinking that I don't like.

People supporting a candidate just because of their last name makes no sense.

10. You are making assumptions...
Many have followed HER career and politics for years.

Just because you are not familiar with who she is as a person does not mean that others are equally ignorant.

13. Sure, some people have followed her
But let's be honest, a lot of people will vote for her because of her last name.

That said, you can't penalize kids of politicians for wanting to run for office. They have as much of a right as anyone else.

11. If she earns the seat on her own merits rather than inherits it like some
political wives do, you have a problem with that?

I see nothing in the Constitution that says if your dad was in politics that you can't be.

15. I got your back, Kestrel. Big difference in elected vs. appointed.
That's why I couldn't get high on Caroline's near-miss appointment.

12. She always said she might get into politics some day. Of all the politician's kids to get
involved she was always the best imo. Very intelligent and very liberal.

14. The children of the ruling elites still equal ruling elites. Senators and Veeps ARE ruling elites.
It's our own home-grown aristocracy.

19. Good. No royal road.
The US House seat does not necessarily need to be the first elected office she holds.
