Obama’s Political Operation Set To Launch Health Care Events In All 50 States

In another sign that Obama’s political operation is set to kick into high gear on behalf of health care reform, Organizing for America will announce this afternoon that it will launch health care reform events in all 50 states next week, an OFA official confirms to me.

The move is the most extensive effort yet by Obama’s reconfigured campaign apparatus to throw itself behind one of the President’s top legislative priorities — and to pressure members of Congress, Dems and Republicans alike, to deliver.

The action, which will start on Monday and conclude the following Sunday, includes door-to-door canvasses, phone banks, roundtable discussions and community gatherings, all designed to build grassroots support for Obama’s health care plan.

Notably, the new grassroots push will emphasize Obama’s call for a public health insurance option, which has emerged as a sticking point for some Dems in Congress. Some critics have questioned the White House’s commitment to the public option.

“During this Week of Action, we’ll continue to build support — person-by-person and block-by-block — for passing a plan this year that lowers costs, guarantees choice, including the choice of a public option, and ensures all Americans have access to quality, affordable care,” OFA director Mitch Stewart said in a statement sent my way.

As I’ve noted here before, there is probably no greater test than health care reform of whether Obama’s groundbreaking campaign apparatus can be pressed into service to drive his governing agenda. Next week’s activities will tell us a lot — stay tuned.

2. Fantastic - But They Need To Wear Some Teabags For Media Coverage
You know the drill. Thousands rally in the capital for healthcare, and not a peep from the media. However, you get a few people wearing tea bags claiming that President Obama was born in Africa, and you have lead story status on Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck.
