Zig Zag Zell rears his pointy head and says Emanuel should put 'Gorilla Glue' in his chair
Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 06:01 PM by CurtEastPoint
to keep him at home.

Zell...Zell. Go home, take your meds and go to sleep.

As reported in the Atlanta J/C today, re: Zell's speech to the 'bipartisan' Legislative Council:

Miller was the Thursday keynoter at the annual gathering of the American Legislative Exchange Council, which ostensibly is a bipartisan or nonpartisan group of legislators. In practice, however, ALEC is overwhelmingly Republican, as evidenced by the the speakers Thursday who bashed President Barack Obama and the the Democratic majority in Congress.

Quelle surprise!

Another fucking embarrassment to my state.

27. He can't be extinct. His creationism philosophy doesn't allow extinction.
Sure is fun to have him back.

Hope he becomes the symbol of the GOP. Old and bitter. That will work for them. Throw in Rush and Cheney, too, and it's just perfect.

14. He was being racist
Gorilla glue is real, but sorry, he cannot plead ignorance at the context of how he is using the word gorilla.

20. Yep, as they pointed out on Hardball, you could've said "Super Glue" or
"Elmer's" or "Krazy Glue" or whatever to make the point.

That was a piss-poor choice of words, but stepping in it couldn't be happening to a more deserving bunch, especially on the day the President addresses the NAACP.

6. So did Rahm Emanuel say anything back?
Now that would be interesting! Zell? He's just an old sour puss man with a shriveled soul who wants everyone to get off his lawn.

8. In the words of the wonderful Julia Sugarbaker (Designing Women)
"I'm saying this is the South. And we're proud of our crazy people. We don't hide them up in the attic. We bring 'em right down to the living room and show 'em off. See, Phyllis, no one in the South ever asks if you have crazy people in your family. They just ask what side they're on."

I'd say this is the most fitting response to news of Zig Zag Zell...;)

15. No. As a southern woman, and a Georgian
we simply do not claim this man. About the nicest thing we can or will say about him is "bless his heart".

17. And as Another Southern Woman and a Georgian
I second your statement only to add "bless his heart, he can't help that he's ugly but he could have stayed home"...

21. And we should preface this by telling y'all that we say this with a beautiful smile
The kind of smile you use right before you stick the knife in and twist it!

Zell is an asshat.

Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 07:19 PM by hlthe2b
not the populace.... His family, after all, keeps sending him out there, despite his obvious questionable behavior...

And, yes, I say this as a transplanted Georgia woman-- who most certainly does NOT claim him.

22. Shirley never does anything in the public eye. I guess she's one of those good
little women who stay home and does what her husband tells her to do.

And I know the reference. Really, is there anyone better than Julia Sugarbaker? She could tell anyone they were the dumbest fool on earth and they would take it as one of the nicest compliments they've ever received. If only I had such a way with words...

25. Living with Zell is probably enough of a "cross to bear..."
Can you imagine?

And, I dare say, the character of Julia Sugarbaker did more to shape the image of modern (smart-as-a-whip) Southern women than just about anything! I still miss that show... ;)

13. You forgot this:
:eyes:

It's hard not to imagine that as being a racist statement, at least a veiled one. Zell IS, after all, from the south and can't help himself anymore than Sessions, Graham, et. al when it comes to minorities. When did he lose his faculties? Is he still a Democrat? If he is, can we excommunicate him?

18. The Democratic Party of Georgia has been warring with each other for years
One side wants to issue statements saying he is not one of us and the other, which is technically correct, says that by our bylaws anyone claiming to be a Democrat is considered one.

I have been to these meetings and rolled my eyes more than you can imagine. I used to be a state committee member and there was one dear old man who brought it up at every meeting. Rest his soul.

As I said upthread, as a Southerner and a Georgian, all we can say about Zell is "bless his heart"

23. I don't know in what respect he (still) considers himself a Democrat
after the 2004 election where he spoke at the RNC and endorsed Bush/Cheney for re-election. Now this. Some people have strange ideas about what constitutes being a Democrat but you don't necessarily have to look at Zell exclusively for an example. There are at least 14 of them (including my *beloved* Senator Bayh) in the US Senate. :puke:

26. Miller's white-wing Southern Democrat sympathies have long been clear.
He characterized Lyndon Johnson as "a Southerner who sold his birthright for a mess of dark pottage" for supporting civil rights, and Miller got his start in government as an assistant to bitter-ender segregationist Governor Lester Maddox.
