Turnabout: Is Obama Denialist Orly Taitz Really a Lawyer? Will She Be For Long?

"I don’t like to talk about the “Birthers.” They don’t deserve serious treatment, except the occasional concise or snarky explanation of why they’re wrong, both of which are done better elsewhere, at a friend’s site. Besides, debating them extensively just makes me feel like I’m lowering myself to their level. So please forgive this momentary diversion, a last glance at one particularly reprehensible villain.

“Dr.” Orly Taitz, a woman holding herself out as a lawyer, has managed to leverage the far-right’s distaste for President Obama into a number of conspiracy theories, a few scurrilous lawsuits, and fifteen minutes of fame, billing herself as the defender of obscure constitutional phraseology and – apparently – the republic itself. But “Dr.” Taitz may be the only “ineligible” player in her little farce.

Although Taitz is a member of the California Bar, she’s not listed as a member of the American Bar Association (check for yourself). Nor is her “law school” (William Howard Taft University) accredited by the ABA. Because Taft is a distance-learning school only, Taitz’s degree entitles her, at most, to practice in California, as her school candidly admits."

At first I didn't know who this asclown was. So I Googled after seeing the name here and found this blog.

16. And we are miles apart
At least for truthers we haven't been shown ALL of the evidence. The birthers have been shown the B/C. I would at least like to see one of the hundreds of videos that should have appeared at the Pentagon on 9/11. Is that too much to ask? Those tapes BELONG to us. I just don't understand with all these loose ends involving 9/11 that people are ok with going with the Governments story. Just like Iraq had WMD's.

2. People who flaunt their "Dr." title
My experience has been that such people either 1) have achieved very little professionally, or 2) got their degree from a lowly ranked university or a diploma mill.

3. I don't know if there
is a requirement for lawyers to be members of the ABA. Maybe someone out there knows for sure.

One thing I do know is that CA lets anyone take the CA Bar exam regardless of whether or not they went to an accredited law school. The CA Bar exam is a difficult exam but passing it doesn't automatically make you eligible to practice in CA. There is the whole procedure of getting admitted to the CA which requires references, fingerprinting and being sworn in.

So, I doubt Oily Tights is stupid. She is delusional, though. These two things are not mutually exclusive.

17. There isn't to be a member of the ABA. But one must attend an ABA accredited law school
in order for states of than then the one in which you earned your degree to allow you to practice law.

I don't know all of the details, but from what I've read, CA allows individuals to take the bar without having gone to law school. However, as is the case with Dr. Taintz, she can only then practice inside California.

And yes, Taitz maybe not be stupid but she is semi-illiterate in the English language. She doesn't have fluency in the grammar, syntax, spelling, etc.

4. Membership in the ABA is not required to practice law in any state.
Have no idea who this Orly Taitz woman is, nor do I support her in any way.

But the article linked in the OP is baseless.

11. The comments below the article
are interesting. A couple of birthers chimed in with their usual nonsense claiming that Obama must be hiding something since he's spent all this money on legal fees supressing the true information.

I wish someone would ask one of these nutjobs to produce some evidence that Obama has a team of lawyers fighting this. Who are these mystery lawyers? What law firm? What briefs have they submitted to supress information? Wouldn't attempts by Obama to supress information be part of the public record somewhere?

They make shit up and call it fact.

14. Most lawyers aren't ABA members
In most states, you must belong to the state bar association as a condition of practice (the so-called "unified bar"), but ABA membership is not a requirement. I belonged to the student section while in law school, but I haven't belonged to the organization since 2000.

18. Yes, many lawyers are dues paying ABA members. But most lawyers, as I'm sure you did,
went to ABA ACCREDITED law schools. And I don't think most folks would like to take the gamble of having someone who earned their "law degree" via correspondence classes, representing them in court.

20. Apparently,. Orly "Wile E. Coyote" Taitz has added a "renounced" attorney to her team.

I’m glad to see this. He’s from the Allaince Defense Fund- one of my favorite organizations!

Plus, they win a lot. :)

27. Makes sense....
She's already got Charles Lincoln, III, former attorney and convicted felon (who has been disbarred in THREE states!) as her "law clerk".

Stephen Pidgeon, BTW, was the brains behind the failed "Broe v Reed" anti-Obama lawsuit here in Washington state, and a few months ago claimed he was being followed by DHS vehicles and was about to be arrested. So yeah, he's a piece of work too.

Her comment's about Cook's duty being revoked sounded more like a personal attack than on the law. Cook takes his complaint to the attorney, and she looks like the one who is running with this.

I never saw Cook, but does he have a leash around his neck?
