White House Political Operation Unleashes Email Blast Hammering “Waterloo” Crack

In yet another sign that the White House is cranking up the attacks on Jim DeMint’s claim that health care will be Obama’s “Waterloo,” Obama’s political operation has unleashed its first blast email highlighting the “Waterloo” claim and calling for supporters to send cash and signatures in response.

A source forwards along a copy of the email from Mitch Stewart, the chief of Organization for America, Obama’s reconstituted political and campaign arm, which was sent to his massive list with an arresting subject line: “It will break him.”

That’s a reference, of course, to DeMint’s prediction that if Obama’s health care reform push fails, “it will break him.”

The email takes the campaign against “Waterloo” to the next level, calling on supporters to sign a petition in support of Obama’s health care plan, and vowing to “publish the signatures in newspaper ads across the nation, to make sure your voice is heard.”

It’s another sign that the White House thinks DeMint’s “Waterloo” prayer may amount to a political game-changer, as seemingly obscure, off-the-cuff comments so often do. It’s also a reminder that health care reform has become the ultimate test of whether Obama’s campaign operation can successfully drive his governing agenda.

Last week, Republican Senator Jim DeMint made it pretty clear why the opponents of health care reform are fighting so hard. As he told a special interest attack group, "If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him." Here's how the President responded:

Think about that. This isn't about me. This isn't about politics. This is about a health care system that is breaking America's families, breaking America's businesses and breaking America's economy. And we can't afford the politics of delay and defeat when it comes to health care. Not this time, not now. There are too many lives and livelihoods at stake.
With Congress only days away from finalizing their plans for reform, it's time to stand up with the President and fight back against this disastrous brand of old-style politics. So we need as many people as possible to publicly support the President's principles for health care reform and call on Congress to act.

So when they publish these names (with short briefs of how bad healthcare has hurt them) it will have a bigger impact to the readers.
