Healthcare hit piece on Obama
Edited on Tue Jul-21-09 04:29 PM by FreeState
Anyone see this? My brother just sent to to me on Facebook... if anyone has a good smack down on it Id appreciate it. I know its Betsy McCaughey (major credibility issues) - I did a search on DU and cant find anything on this post of hers yet...

July 17, 2009 - President Obama promises that "if you like your health plan, you can keep it," even after he reforms our health-care system. That's untrue. The bills now before Congress would force you to switch to a managed-care plan with limits on your access to specialists and tests.

Two main bills are being rushed through Congress with the goal of combining them into a finished product by August. Under either, a new government bureaucracy will select health plans that it considers in your best interest, and you will have to enroll in one of these "qualified plans." If you now get your plan through work, your employer has a five-year "grace period" to switch you into a qualified plan. If you buy your own insurance, you'll have less time.

And as soon as anything changes in your contract -- such as a change in copays or deductibles, which many insurers change every year -- you'll have to move into a qualified plan instead (House bill, p. 16-17).

When you file your taxes, if you can't prove to the IRS that you are in a qualified plan, you'll be fined thousands of dollars -- as much as the average cost of a health plan for your family size -- and then automatically enrolled in a randomly selected plan (House bill, p. 167-168).

1. The government will also be sending gnomes to everyone's home to inspect their toothbrushes
and then they'll decide which kind of toothpaste is best for you. I read it! It must be true!

2. Interesting to see if the Public option has deductables.

I have excellent benefits from my employer. Very low rates for a single person for UHC insurance, however the deductable went up last year and it could go up again.

5. My state Insurance Pool does
That's for people with pre-existing conditions. That was one thing I had a choice over, the amount of the deductible. I chose the smallest one because the subsidy covers most of my premium. I have co-pays too, $10, $40 and full price on prescriptions. I think I pay 20% too. But single payer plans around the world usually don't pay 100%, and Canada has prescription charges.

4. No, insurance will not be required to join the exchange
I actually find that to be a flaw in the bill, but for these idiots, it's a negative. And the fine is $750 or 2% of adjusted income, depending on whether it's the house or the senate. If it's the same as the cost of a health plan, then get a health plan. That's the entire point.

This is just such poor comprehension skills that it stuns me that it gets any attention.

Outlines of both plans, links to info from the Senate & House.
