GOP congressman has birther meltdown on Hardball
Video here:

It takes Chris Matthews two full minutes to finally get Congressman John Campbell (R-CA) to definitively admit that he believes President Obama was born in the United States:

<...>

These guys are absolutely, completely, totally nuts...and they are captive to a base that's even crazier.

1. That was a riot--Matthews had to work very hard
Edited on Tue Jul-21-09 05:42 PM by vixengrl
to get the guy to admit to an obvious fact....just because he's afraid of p-o'ing a very small minority of very disturbed people. Leadership--the GOP don't have it.

(Edit: to clarify "GOP".)

2. Matthews: "You are feeding the wacko wing of your party".
That Congressman was pathetic.

making the connection between their ludicrous actions and the wackos in the GOP. They own the crazy and are responsible for any actions that are born from them.

13. I guess I'm going to have to admit that Matthews isn't *entirely* worthless.
Though that our media is still beating this particular horse at all is sadder than any of Matthews' usual assclownery.

If only he'd concentrate on something important[/i[ for two full minutes.

6. Said "as far as he knows" there's no doubt, but it's a "legitimate question"
and that anyone should have to verify that they meet the requirements.

I wonder if Rep. Campbell ever demanded to see George W. Bush's birth certificate. Even if there was "no doubt" shouldn't we be able to verify that he meets the requirements?

No, this is only issue when Obama is elected, because he's got a funny name and looks different.

7. love this from the comments on DKos
Isn't it amazing how far you can get when journalists deal with something called EVIDENCE instead of giving all sides equal time in the name of "fairness"?

If only it happened more often.

8. First thing we do if Health Care passes....
Pass a law that all Republicans in the United States, and their children, take a psychological examination, and have them put on appropriate medication.

They are so wacky I can't understand why TV pundits on "normal" stations even put them on to air their accusations and rantings. Also, their inability to believe that a Republican elected official could not possibly be guilty of anything is also a sign of some mental illness.

16. Oh, you just reminded me of my gigantic grudge against him
When he was all swiftboats all the time during the Kerry campaign. NO ONE gave those a-holes more of a forum than Chris Matthew.

17. And tonight-- JUST NOW-- equating the Birthers with "The Left"
on Ohio's 2004 Diebolded Election results. Managed to get Dee Dee Myers to completely disavow any notion of any dubiousness.

15. Matthews did his job

Reminder when Cheney was named as VP candidate back in 2000 and Democrats questioned whether he was a resident of Texas. The questioning was dismissed. Democrats, to their credit, did not push for legislation to require candidates to "substantiate" their state of residence.

In the Bush/Cheney case, it was true both Bush and Cheney were residents of Texas - yet the Democrats still did not push it in the way these GOP guys are pushing this nutcase bill. To say "it is not about President Obama" is ridiculous.
