Specter's Lead Vanishes in Pennsylvania

A new Quinnipiac poll in Pennsylvania finds Sen. Arlen Specter's (D-PA) lead over challenger Pat Toomey (R) has disappeared.

Specter now barely edges Toomey, 45% to 44%, and by a 49% to 40% margin, voters say Specter does not deserve reelection.

Less than three months ago, Specter had a 20 point lead.

In another possible match up, Toomey would beat Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA), 39% to 35%, if he were to prevail in a Democratic primary.

2. May be an outlier, but many of us will not vote for a Spectre either. Not even against a Toomey.
Is Magic-bullet Boy's vote that valuable that it would not be a better "lesson" to the republican wing of the Democratic Party to send him into retirement?

I would assert that the better, long-term outcome would be to send a message that we will not accept any reich-wing asshole that the Party "elders" select for us.

4. People thought that there was no way that PA would elect a guy like Rick Santorum
At this time in 1993 no one thought that a guy like Santorum had a chance of beating Harris Wofford. But the political landscape changed enough for Santorum to win.

5. Do not underestimate Toomey
He managed to win three terms in the House in the 15th, which is a swing district.

6. this poll is kinda worthless while the news among indies is bad
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 10:56 AM by NYC Democrat
the poll polls 512 dems and 511 reps which is a grossly inaccurate representation of the PA electorate which is something like 50% dem 37% rep.
