The Hill: Pelosi open to keeping the House in session thru August to pass healthcare overhaul |
|
Pelosi: Congress should work through recess By Mike Soraghan Posted: 07/22/09 12:50 PM
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday said she's open to keeping the House in session through the August recess to pass its healthcare overhaul.
"I think 70 percent of the American people would want that," Pelosi said. "I want a bill."
That stance contradicts House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), who said Tuesday that he didn't see any point in staying into August if Democrats haven't reached consensus by then on a bill.
But Pelosi also said she believes she has the votes to pass the bill on the floor of the House. Still, she indicated it will be important for members to look at the Senate Finance Committee's version, not yet finished. That suggests she may change the House version to more closely resemble the Senate bill.
The Senate Finance version should have broader appeal with Democratic centrists and Republican, particularly if it does not include a government-run insurance option to compete with the private sector, as expected.

1. Great! Do what you have to do. |
|
Keep them in session and make them do all-nighters and the only thing they can eat is cereal and cold Chinese food. Works in college!

5. Also, Nancy - if Baucus bill is passed. |
|
Remove all the crap, and enforce a SINGLE PAYER PLAN.
Nothing else matters. We needs to be #1 in health care, and we are, but we don't have the MEANS to pay for it.
That's what the SINGLE PAYER PLAN IS FOR.
Screw the insurance industries who keeps buying our Senators and Congresscritters - they are the ones that needs to be indicted, imprisoned and removed from the real world permanently.

No public option out of the Finance Committee?
What are the long term implications of this? Does it kill the public option in the final bill? And if so, why aren't certain members who support a public option, like John Kerry, speaking out on this?
If there is no public option in health care reform I can find no fundamental utility in it.
So, can someone explain to me what that particular sentence in the article means?

11. All This Talk By Certain Members of Congress To Not Rush This Through & Slow Things Down To Get .... |

it right - has nothing to do about any healthcare reform bill at all. They are only thinking of themselves and their one month vacation and don't want any little thing like healthcare reform to mess up their plans.
Keep'em in D.C. Don't let them go until they pass this much needed legislation for the American people. Yeah - Nancy!!!!
