If you are watching Beltway pundits diss Obama tonight, you are watching how poisoned our media is
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 10:49 PM by zulchzulu
You are watching talking heads who are paid by lobbyists and media relations firms that have given them talking points to use that were filtered by the pharmaceutical profit and health care insurance industry media relations firms.

These talking points have been edited, measured, tested and further edited to be nice, bitesize chunks of lies, innuendos, half-truths and other sordid unproven misinterpretations of actual data that shows that the United States stands in the thirties in terms of rankings in worldwide health care.

These talking points are designed to pivot against any facts that might derail the fact that we have a health care program in this country that is ridden with errors, greed, corruption and of course, hopefully (for the lobbyist interests) something that will not change in any way.

You can see the media relations training that was difficult at first, but now is money, baby! The Guardian Lobbyist whispers on the pundit's shoulder:
Look into the camera with those new capped teeth. Smile confidently, but move to The Serious Face when you feel it is needed. Form your hand as though you are holding a bank card at an ATM and move your pointed fingers back and forth that are synced to your precious bolded talking point power phrases. Keep your eyes steady at the camera. Don't look too rehearsed. You have these points down. You were coached earlier and on the ride over to the station for the interview. Shit, do a good job and who knows... cocktails, dinner, maybe even a golf junket in Scotland where you'll get serviced by the busty hooker, get drunk on the finest whiskey and cheat on your newly learned golf game.

It is a parade of sellouts, whiners, hucksters and liars that are merely pawns in the game. They get their hair done, get their botox injected, get pancaked with makeup and they clench those talking points in their soft hands and make sure the typeface is readable enough when they parrot what they have been told to say.

Make sure to enjoy those wonderfully produced pharmaceutical industry ads and their hit-piece political ads during the commercial breaks. And take an aspirin because you better the hell not get sick.

It is truly a disgusting time in our history.

3. There are times that I wish we had a state run news media
That's a feeling that I keep way down in the darkest places of my heart, but sometimes that's what I really want.

...as long as our people are running the state.

5. all you have to do is watch a few hours of network tv.. and
see how peppered it is with drug company ads- these companies are their meal ticket currently, and their true constituent, not us. I was not surprised by the tilt of both the questions and the commentary, but it made me angry and i was proud of our president and his ability to frame the issue as a fight for a better more efficient system that works for people, doctors and the country, not the special interests who are trying to delay and kill reforms that cut into their bottom line and the politicians who are simply using this issue as a reason to take Obama down a notch.

Obama rocked tonight!

7. Big Ed just TOTALLY lost me tonight......
..... HOW, ED, do you think the President is going able to be able to get anything accomplished with the Blue Dogs if he comes out and bashes them to the American people? That makes NO sense whatsoever.

9. He will be relected in part because he passed a health care bill that was economically sound.....
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 10:27 PM by Clio the Leo
.... NOT because he passed a health care bill that was progressive enough.

That may suck, but it's the truth.

PERIOD.

13. It's part of the reason he has to have these news conferences.
Corporate media puppets bash him and raise imaginary doubts day after day and try to talk people out of believing. He doesn't have much choice but to counter them by repeatedly reminding people why and when and how this stuff has to be done to avert more disasters as time passes and improve the lives of millions.

It is disgusting.

16. Don't know if programmed by MSM central, but comments true to particular form.
Outraged Ed that Obama wasn't outraged, Michelle Bernard can never quite leave GOP cover group, Rachel wanting higher moral lift and epic, Howard Fineman just being clueless about anything other than political inside baseball, and other pundits just totally unrealistic about legislative process and when Obama should weigh in, but also wanting drama.

Only Dem strategist Steve McMahon got it right about Blue Dog and what Obama actually said, but I had to sit through all of Ed to get there.

so will just dig in more bigoted poop or maybe stay away, which helps health care.

Some feel that the Gates "story" will help the healthcare legislation. I'm not convinced... I think it's just another distraction for people not to understand what it really going on.

22. I hit the "Off" button when I heard Fineman droning on about how tired Obama
was, and how he offered no new information. I don't need some overpaid "journalist" to tell me what I just saw and heard.

I've all but given up on the corporate media.

24. The corporate propaganda machine rolls ever-more vigilantly onward.
The message: "Poison is good for us. Yum-yum, give me more. Compassionate people are destroying us by raising taxes. Authority good, free-will and insightful observations bad. Have some more processed, genetically modified stomach filler! Delicious and easy. Smaller boxes of cereal are really, really cute!! rBST makes my butter just dreamy!!!!!

25. Get used to it
Since neither the administration nor the Dems have shown any inclination to restore regulation- or get the disease mongering drug ads off the air, their far right owners perceive that they have nothing to lose.

26. Beautiful! Obama did a fantastic job last night... you knew the pundits were
going to fuck this up when I saw Fineman on MSNBC take a crack at Obama. I thought... What the fuck was he looking at. I saw a well stated case for health care reform and I saw Fineman as a tool for big pharma!
