The Republican Party embraces American Talibanism

People wonder how countries like Pakistan or Indonesia who have a history of secular control of political institutions end up with insurgent groups of fundamentalists who take increasingly bizarre positions.

Just look at the 'Birthers' and their play in the Republican Party. Not a single Republican major office holder believes that these charges have any merit or are anything more than political lunacy. But they stay quiet.

It gets people off their seats and get them reaching for their wallets. Well in Pakistan, Indonesia and Afghanistan they reached for their goats or chickens but lots of sensible people stood by while lunatics took over the discussion.

President Obamas' life is so well documented, the schools that he went to, his mothers' employment that of all of the stupid conspiratorial theories that regularly sweep across the country this one sets a new standard for 'stuck on stupid'.

But all of the leaders: Steele, McCain, Cheney, Romney, Palin, Limbaugh, Jindal, Pawlenty, etc. they all remain silent.

With so little going for it the Republicans are glad to have any issue that creates excitement in the base. But tolerating these means that they will continue to embarass and drive off principled Republicans who can't stand American Talibanism.

Romney's father (for those too young to know him) would never had stood for it. Neither Eisenhower or Goldwater would have stomached it. Rockfeller would have challenged a birther to a fight. Nixon would have seen the danger and pierced it early. Ford would have absolutely humiliated anyone who mentioned it (and he would have had to beat his wife to it first).

The Republican Party continues to sink into a swamp of opportunistic lunacy.

The Republican Party, by its silence, embraces American Talibanism. If you wondered how it started in other countries this is it.

1. Of course they do, the idiot freepers are simply too blinded by hate to realize they are in fact
helping to dig their own graves by siding with this ideology of theirs, not only wacky but very very threatening to our present way of life

3. Institutionalize Racism
has reached a new height, he is a black man, in simple terms every black man does not
belong here (America) Palin is the last person you want on that list, the woman who started
this whole shenanigan.

Prof. Gates comes to mind, these things are co-ordinated to make a point, it's deeper than
we think.

9. Opportunistic lunacy. It's hard to say if the lunacy has been
created on purpose or if it is encouraged to blossom with additional B.S.
