My e-mail to Sen. Landrieu (regarding her lack of support)...
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 11:22 PM by Renaissance Man
Sen. Landrieu,

As one of your constituents that supported you the last two times that you sought re-election, I am disappointed in the stance that you have taken so far in choosing not to support President Obama's healthcare initiative (with a public option).

I know you are not alone, because you, like other Blue Dog Democrats (some of whom rely heavily on African-American constitutents for their re-election bids) sometimes campaign one way, and when it comes to voting on real issues that affect people in real ways, turn the other way and forget those same constituents who were responsible for your successful re-election bid.

Well, this ends tonight. The health of the American people should never be based on profit margins of private insurance companies. If you are not aware (which I am sure that you are), a considerable amount of financial distress has been unfairly assumed by Americans who have, in one way or another, experienced financial disaster because of the unwillingness of private insurers to do what those premiums are paid for them to do -- provide actual coverage for their customers.

Of course, there's an alternative to this. It's called listening to the same people who elected you to represent them and their interests (above and beyond the interests of the campaign contributions that you receive from private insurance companies -- who are only interested in profit margins by way of denying coverage), and remembering why you actually wanted to serve as a Senator in the first place.

As of late, I am heavily disappointed, and I will be forwarding this same message to every other constituent that you represent (that I happen to know) within the state of Louisiana (along with your direct office number and e-mail address). If you choose not to support the President's healthcare overall (with, at least, a PUBLIC OPTION), then I, and every other Progressive Democrat that I know within your district, will choose not to support you the next time you seek a re-election bid.

After all, isn't that what representative democracy is all about?

Sincerely,

RM

2. Excellent effort. We should encourage everyone to make their voices heard.
We can't buy them...but in the end...(if they don't steal it again) at least we can hope our vote will count and our voices will signify our vote.

4. Landrieu is the only Democratic Senator . . .
who has said she will definitely vote against a public option. Not one Republican has said they will definitely vote for it. There are many "blue dogs" who say they are still "undecided" (they may be lying) and only one Republican, Olympia Snowe, who is undecided (she may be telling the truth). The rest of the Republicans say no public option.
