Dow hits 9,000 for first time since January

The Dow Jones Industrial Average cleared the 9,000-point barrier Thursday around 10:30 a.m., the first time it has done so since Jan. 6. The exchange was up nearly 120 points to 9,000.44, boosted by positive earnings news. The Dow’s high point so far in 2009 was set Jan. 2, the first day of trading, when it closed at 9,034.
