The GOP Is Destroying Themselves
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 12:54 PM by berni_mccoy
Obama becoming president and then starting his presidency by solving the most important issue, Healthcare for All, is absolutely causing a meltdown in the GOP. What's worse for them is that the Democrats and the Obama administration have been very visible about reaching out them, including them as well as industry conservatives in discussions about policy and taking their ideas and perspectives seriously. The Obama administration and Democrats have also given credit to the Republicans for their input.

Instead of meeting Obama and the Democrats on their bipartisan efforts, they've decided to smack down the hand of brotherhood and go on a full-throttle attack, catering to the most extreme and whacko members of their party. The Birthers actually got Congressmen to start a bill regarding Presidents having to prove their citizenship with a birth certificate. FreeRepublic has endorsed racism and is promoting the overthrow of the government. GOP representatives have come out publicly on their own saying "We Will BREAK Obama" and "Healthcare will be Obama's Waterloo" and other extreme, even racist comments coming from members of Congress.

They have completely exposed themselves as counter to what any American wants (except for maybe the 10% whacko fringe of the GOP and the Nazi's and KKK). And when called on it by mainstream media, they don't calm down or take a look at themselves, but instead ratchet it up another notch.

They are truly destroying themselves and their party, when they could be restoring it. The Democrats and Obama have given them a golden opportunity to return the party to it's ideals and come to a respectable place. Instead, they've literally gone insane.

Republics, meet the face of your party (from http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/funnypictures/ig/Republican-Clowns/ ):

3. What's really nauseating is those who have been there
for decades. Instead of acknowledging/solving the problem they sit there decade after decade just getting in the way of those who want to do something about it.

I'm so sick of the "We have the best healthcare in the world mantra." That's their excuse for sitting on their hands. They need to get out and talk to real people and see the problems and yes, empathize with their constituents.

I think we could save a ton of money on administrative costs alone. I have 36 pieces of paper (billing) from a broken foot I suffered in November 2008. It's ridiculous.

10. Not at all.
They've managed to work their way into the minority, certainly, but this doesn't mean anything close to their "destruction." They're just giving their constituents what they want, and plenty of it. Stupid though this often makes their behavior, it guarantees that they will continue to exist.

They'll even manage some sort of weak rebranding someday, and find their star ascendant once again. They are backed by too much goddamned money and MSM cover to fail completely.

12. They missed their golden opportunity right from the start
of Obama's presidency. I was always terrified that they would get smart and join in with Obama to fix things.

My fear was that they would take the credit for their run in 2012. I kept saying at the time that the only way to go for them would be to take credit for the "turnaround." The only way they could do that would have been to cooperate.

But their base is so rank and rabid, they would have tossed out the legislators for Joe the Plumbers all over their districts because they look at cooperation as losing.

I guarantee you that in this very same economy we have now, if the republicans had cooperated when they should have, all of the media would be touting this as the greatest economic recovery of all times, thanks to republicans.

I'm glad they went the other way. Stupid is as stupid does.

14. That is quite astute.
you are correct. They really did miss that opportunity.

Had they done that -- we would have been truly f*cked.

15. I don't know how they missed it. It was a time for America to come together.
Democrats in Congress and Obama was welcoming them with open arms. But then, maybe Obama and the Dems knew this is how they would react. The GOP is not run by the smartest of people. Take a look at their website!
