Racist Cambridge Cop Responds to Obama
Crowley maintained he had done nothing wrong in arresting Gates.

"I support the president of the United States 110-percent," he told WBZ Radio.

"I think he's way off base wading into a local issue without knowing all the facts, as he himself stated before he made that comment. I don't know what to say about that. I guess a friend of mine would support my position, too."

1. "without knowing the facts"....
and "I may be biased" are the parts of his answer being widely ignored... here and elsewhere.

14. What don't you get? He condemned himself in his own
police report. It doesn't matter what the other evidence is. That's why they dismissed it.

His own words condemn him but somehow, you think that if you can prove Gates yelled at him loud enough, then it was okay for the cop to violate his duty.

By the way, why is everybody overlooking the fact that the cop committed a crime in not giving his name and badge number?

The guy really fucked up. Just stop trying to justify it someway. I hate to think that all those people that got dogs sicked on them, waterhoses blasted at them, bricks thrown, billyclubbed, shot, because they didn't bow to a cop in the exercise of their constitutional rights. It was their fault too right? If they had just kept their mouths shut, it wouldn't have happened.

I get it.

2. Calling the cop a racist is dumb
Racism is far more complicated than that.

There is no greater FAIL in the universe than trying to fit a square peg in the racist hole. That dog won't hunt here.

5. I still don't see the "racism"...especially after reading the police report.

Gates' account of the event contradicts the reports of two officers at the scene.

7. I really doubt that there was any blatant racism.
However I think that if people want to see racism in what happened, they will see it that way, no matter what the evidence shows.
There's no changing their minds.

Just like there will be no changing the minds of the people who think that Prof. Gates acted arrogantly, no matter what the evidence shows.

It's hard to find people who would concede that both sides acted inappropriately.

19. In a statement by Gates:
"He was wearing a blue blazer and leather shoes, he said. The driver, dressed in a black uniform, began to lean his shoulder into the door to try to force it open. They pushed for 15 minutes and got the door free. The driver then left."

Did they also notice that Gates entered the back of the house with his own set of keys?

43. "Limo" is a generic term. It was likely just a car.
...and she saw two men trying to force open a door. Sport coat or not, there's nothing wrong with making a call to have it checked out.

If it had been my house, I'd certainly have wanted a neighbor to call police.

35. ***LAY OFF THE PERSON WHO SUMMONED THE POLICE IN GOOD FAITH***
NOTHING is relevant up to the point that Professor Gates established his identity. Once he did so, the officer was ALREADY over the line, having followed him into the house UNINVITED and apparently TAKEN A SEAT. At that point his investigation was OVER and he needed to leave an exhausted, grumpy, testy, older gentleman ALONE. HE DID NOT DO SO, RATHER HE ARRESTED THE MAN ON TRUMPED-UP CHARGES
Focus, people, focus. :eyes:

Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 02:26 PM by burning rain
Arresting a goy in his own home that way just doesn't pass the smell test. But so far as we know, it could have been a case of self-important cop syndrome -- "How dare you disrespect me, lowly civilian?" -- and not racism. It bears investigating, but it's prmature to conclude racism was in play. So you get an unrec for the race-baiting headline.

42. Your statement reminds me of the disconnect between Blacks and Whites
My friend is English and bi-cultural or Black and White parents. Mum is Black, Da is White. I remember having a conversation with them at one point about traveling and racism. And the dad was talking about this trip they had in the Northern part of England and he said, there was no racism. The area was brilliant and they had a great time. Then his wife and my friend (both her and brother are Black with just their Father's features) kept saying that it's not true. They were like, because he's White he didn't pick up on the treatment his wife and daughter and son on other hand received. It was interesting to see that dynamic, especially since I figured he'd be more away due to his family. But he's actually excluded from reading the nuances in treatment. Plus my friends mum is someone who's not about to say White's are to blame for anything. She believes in hard work and thinks that you can surpass any obstacle to get ahead, racism is one of them.

26. Racist....
...the more this term is used in situations like this - it loses its meaning. I see this situation as a time where two men with large egos butted heads and one overstepped the bounds due to his position.

Anyway...we are ALL a little racist. Deny and I call you a liar. It is not simply a black\white thing and it is NOT uniquely American or Western.
