Obama might think about replacing Reid and Pelosi...(aka the Dems are Gutless) |
|
(Ok, I cooled down, so the title isnt as graphic as it was in my head a few moments ago)
Obama now officially owns "healthcare", the Afghan and Iraqi WarS {5000 US troops now killed in Iraq and Afghanistan}, and the shitty economy- after the failed rescue attempts of, for, and by the bankers.
If/when at least two of these sectors dont rebound (ie, we get free healthcare for less than we are spending now, all of our troops home, and an economy that sees less than 6% unemployment and an end to the housing slump) Obama will lose in 2012 if he has the nerve to run and the Dems will lose their OVERWHELMING MAJORITIES starting in 2010.
Obama might want to consider putting some hard core mutha fuckas in "leadership" positions to ram through the fixes that this country needs. Blue Dogs, Corporate Whores, and DINO's are going to cost the Dems to lose the majority and quite possibly the wellbeing of the country. Repukes are going to have no trouble whatsoever likening a failed healthcare system, a failed economy (with the accompanying food riots and crime waves that will follow), and more dead soldiers to three very large anchors that will be tied to the Democrats' necks.
(pardon the blatant sexism of the following)
but it's time to Man Up or Shut The Fuck Up.

1. I don't think those are necessarily Obama's choices to make. |
|
Both houses of Congress are likely to get a bit testy if they aren't allowed to elect their own leaders.

8. So after Rahm chats with them, then what? |
|
Reid still is primarily concerned about keeping the Senate majority-Dem, which means ensuring that the Republicans don't pick up any close races, which means coddling the conservadems. He already knows he's fucking Obama over; he said right after Obama took power that he "didn't work for" the President.

what idiots came up with that? :sarcasm:
and by the way, I think Obama is smart enough to see how much and how fast the Congress is advancing his agenda.

6. He doesn't have the power to do either. |
|
First of all, Pelosi's doing a fine job. Every important House bill has passed so far, and has passed in a more liberal form than we ended up with. Reid's Senate is the problem.
Either can only be replaced if they lose their elections (unlikely in Reid's case, impossible in Pelosi's) or if the House/Senate Dems vote them out and vote in new leaders. Given that the principal problem with Reid is that he gives individual Senators too much leeway to obstruct/change things they don't like, it's extremely unlikely that he'll be voted out. He's in power because he lets our side do whatever the fuck they want.

9. Agree. Pelosi is doing fine. Not equivalent to Reid at all |
|
The problem is that Pelosi, like Chris Dodd and John Kerry are Dems that petulant critics love to hate. A couple months ago if you surfed liberal/progressive blogs you would think that Pelosi ordered torture. She also has to get cooperation from her old rival Steny Hoyer who as the whip gets people on board or lets them stray

...knowledge on these boards about how our government runs is a constant source of wonderment to me.
If this is what people who care carry about in their heads, then what hope is there for the guy who tunes in for six weeks every fourth year?

12. Obama doesn't have the authority to do that. Separation of powers. |
|
He doesn't have appointment powers, so he has no authority to reach his hand into another branch of government and replace its leaders because they don't do what he wants.
The last administration did that with the judiciary, remember? And it was illegal, so they say.
