Sgt. James Crowley Instructor on Racial Profiling |
|
Coming on the heels of the New Haven Firefighters kerfuffle and the confirmation hearings for Judge Sotomayor I am left with a question.
Exactly what test was given that would put this policeman ahead of virtually any other capable African American Police Officer?
Sgt. Crowley may be an outstanding police officer and he may have had an off day. But his position as an instructor on how to avoid racial profiling clearly shows that the tests and systems that are used to promote policeman (and by extension fire fighters) have nothing to do with the actual skill set for the ultimate job that they then do.
Seems like being a Police Instructor teaching the subject of Racial Profiling would be a cushy job. So either no African American was interested in the position
or
no African American Police Officer has the ability to understand this issue
or
the testing/selection system used helps ensure good ole boys . . .

2. I think we've adequately established that white folks never listen to black folks on race. |

3. We should get the basic facts straight, first |
|
"no African American Police Officer has the ability to understand this issue"
He cotaught this with a black officer.
"the testing/selection system used helps ensure good ole boys . . ."
Former police commissioner Ronny Watson, who is black, hand-picked Sgt. Crowley
------------ There are a lot of valid reasons for outrage over what happened, but mixing in false presumptions doesn't help anything.

5. I didn't know about the fact that he co taught it with a black officer |
|
He didn't seem to have excelled in the subject given his defiant, "I would never apologize" stance.
Further the good Professor probably got his goat and got under his skin after the confrontation escelated..
You would think that would be exactly the kind of thing that they would role play and make sure their students were equpped for.
Again maybe he just had a bad day.

4. The racial profiling was done by the citizen who called in the incident. |
|
The Police should have recognized their error, apologized and left when the Prof produced his credentials. I don't get how this officer is so obtuse.

|
getting so many complaints against him.
