2. The elections over Frenchy, we won! We won! We don't have to campaign every day any more we won!

If I went and gave more traffic to CNN, I'd feel as stupid as those cops acted, so I'll let the permanent campaign mode folks help raise CNNs advertising rates

12. Frenchie is the OP. That's not me. I think you posted in the wrong place, tuvor.
Are you also working to make sure somebody somewhere thinks it's OK that Obama made some throw away remark when responding to a reporter's question?

How's it going?

Is the country all right with it, or will this be a big problem down the road? How is the CNN poll going? Are people voting your way?

22. PO didn't make a "throw away" remark..
<snip>>

.."But his tone quickly turned serious.

"I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. That's just a fact," Obama said.

Obama went on to note the incident doesn't lessen "the incredible progress that has been made" in race relations and cited his presidency as an example. But he added a long history of African-Americans and Hispanics being stopped in disproportionate numbers by police "still haunts us."

"Even when there are honest misunderstandings, the fact that blacks and Hispanics are picked up more frequently and often time for no cause casts suspicion even when there is good cause," Obama said. "And that's why I think the more that we're working with local law enforcement to improve policing techniques so that we're eliminating potential bias, the safer everybody is going to be."..

4. K & R

But you can't make me go to the CNN website. :p And by the way, "Yes, and Skip Gates also acted stupidly and in a manner unbecoming his status as a Harvard professor and noted African-American affairs scholar" is apparently not a poll choice.

7. And it shouldn't be a choice.
No American should be treated like that in their own home for no reason. The Cop was an ass.

10. That's right. No back talk to police officers, by God. Or you're going to jail.
Constitutional rights? Proper police procedure? Wrongful arrest? That sort of talk is un-American!

16. Oh, Please

I just said the cops acted poorly. And so did Gates. You're beating to death the first part of my point and ignoring the second. Don't we expect better behavior from Harvard scholars than you see from your average idiot on COPS? *Both* parties were in the wrong here. And Obama should have declined to comment.
