Since we're talking about cops, how do they like their government-run health care coverage? |
|
It would be a nice way to pivot out of the STUPID story on Gates and Cambridge cop.
Show me a police department in the country that doesn't get Health, Dental, Optical, Life (including dependent coverage) insurance from tax dollars and is run by government officials.

5. Wow! Good point... the usual Freep reaction is that unions are evil... |
|
...except if they are somehow "on their side" on an issue...

6. I don't think they have government run health insurance |
|
I don't know for sure, but I imagine they have private insurance just like the federal government.

7. It's tax-payer funded insurance usually paid for by the city they work for |
|
Usually they get a choice of a health maintenance organization (HMO) or preferred providers option (PPO) plans where they pay a small fee and the city they work in pays the most of. There is staff that works for the city (hence the government) that manage the choice they make and other things like alerting about status, upgrades, etc.

I don't think you understand what people mean when they refer to a "public option" or "government run."

8. Do they get government-run insurance, or private insurance that is funded by the government? |

Most cities I've checked have government workers (such as police...) get a choice of HMO (health maintenance organization) or PPO (preferred providers option), either which is paid for by the city. They make a small contribution which is a deduction in their pay.
This would be identical to the public option in terms of choice and there is an office at the City Hall that has a government staff managing the benefits packages.

Not even for the military. What is dangerous is driving a truck or working on a construction site. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/cfoi.t03.htm
